I had a kernal panic problem a few years ago due to a bad hard drive and/or a logic board problem. (Computer died before it could be determined).
Could definitely be the hardware.

Frame rate is 29.97 and codecs are mixed between DV/DVCPRO + DVCPRO HD

I’m stumped. No mater what i do the recording starts about three seconds before my in-point. Could this be a deck issue?
-
also – is there a difference between the mastering and editing toggle at the top of the window?
Do i need to be in a different one to insert edit?
Thanks

is the “ETT” window in the bottom left hand corner of the edit to tape window?

Thanks for the response jeremy.
I’m going out to a Sony DVW-A500.
I figured out how to toggle off the video signal with the yellow film strip icon, but when i went to do my insert the tape started recording about three seconds after i told it to. (i said start at 59:50 and the deck started at 59:53.
Is there a timecode issue when you do an insert in FCP? Am I missing a TC setting?
thanks.

It’s coming off a panasonic camera and loaded from DV tape. I don’t know much about these cameras, but it was described as a camera with two settings. One setting was a 24P setting and the other was processed through some kind of chip that gives it a sharper look and may or may not be the equivalent of 30P. The description got vague when the discussion of the chip started.

The production manager just spoke with the shooter’s agency and it sounds like the camera he used had a setting that changed the look of the footage and converted it to 29.97 while the other camera people used a lower quality looking setting that the camera also converted into 29.97.
So it sounds liek there’s nothing i can do through FCP.
Thanks everyone for the help.

The material that was supposedly shot 24P is also coming up as 29.97 interlaced, which is what it looks like they set up the project to do.
Would it be best just to have them convert the tape? Or can we reload it at 30P and then export it at 24P?
The producers are seeing a slight difference in the quality between the 24P material and the 30P material, so basically i just need to find a way to make them look similar.
Thanks for all of your help.

Ok, one more question.
I took it on faith that the material was shot 30P, since that’s what they told me, but I just looked at the clip’s item properties and it is saying the clip is lower field first / 29.97.
Would FCP make that conversion on capture or does that mean that the material was actually shot interlaced?
Thanks.
