Yeah I knew it could be referenced by name but there are more than 50 instances of the same pre comp so I really wanted a way to have their expressions reference the index of that particular instance of the pre comp inside it’s parent comp.

Is there any other way to get a reference to ‘self’ like in c?

Thanks but that looks a bit processor intensive for the quick and dirty effect I’m after.
I ended up just making some roughly human sized squashed cylinders, dropping them in a null with the plane and turning off ‘seen by camera’ as well as re-keying the footage to include a little bit of darkness around the feet from the green screen.
Looks convincing enough.

I got this after emptying the cache and none of these suggestions helped.

Fixed it by clearing the cache and then immediately repairing permissions, quitting and reopening A.

No one uses after effects on multiple machines with OSX here?

Maybe my explanation was a bit confusing.
To put it another way:

If I have 3 Mac render nodes, how can I set the output path to one of these nodes, such that it is legitimate and writable for all nodes?

Or have Adobe just stopped caring about the Mac user base?

Any ideas anyone?

Just want to utilise macs in my house to help render.
Seems incredibly silly that I can’t choose a network folder that all nodes can write to.
