It used to be tied to the size of your CANVAS window (log and capture that is). Try adjusting the size of your canvas and THEN opening log and transfer.

See if that works. I’m still on FCP5.

    Hmmm…

What I’d do… I’d set my RT to play back at 3:2 and lay it off to tape and then import it back in at 29.97.

What I’d do if I ever wanted it back at 24… I’d set my RT to play back at 2:3:3:2 and lay it off to tape.

What I might try… Dropping in into a 29.97 timeline and see what happened (might be ugly and random)

Then I might try… Looking at Cinema Tools and see if it will ADD telecine (don’t think it does though)

What I’d hope… That someone smarter than both of us has a better idea.

    Good luck,

Any chance you are monitoring FC thru one set of speakers and your system sounds thru another?

January 15, 2009 at 11:27 pm in reply to: exporting a 16:9 still

[Chris Baldwin] “a function that exports a still in the same aspect ratio as the sequence?”

Actually — aside from your ranting about it (which won’t do you any good — google for the feedback page and do what the rest of us do — oh, I’ll do it for you — https://www.apple.com/feedback/finalcutpro.html ), you are completely wrong in your thought process above.

In fact, Apple DOES exactly what you said. The aspect ratio of the sequence is ANAMORPHIC.

Here’s what I’d do… Set your canvas to 100% and hit Apple-Shift-4 and drag a box around the frame.

Now you have a picture with the correct dimensions.

    Good luck,

    GAH! That doesn’t sound right.

If it were me I’d trash my FCP preferences with FCPRescue (google). Then see what happens.

The only thing I can think of is only slightly shorter BUT…

Drop them all in so they butt up together.

Bring up a SLUG to the viewer sent in/out to 2 seconds (minus one frame)

    Go back to the timeline

Hit the ” key to jump to next edit

    F9 to INSERT the slug

    ” key to jump

    F9 to INSERT etc.

    Should go rather quick.

January 6, 2009 at 12:15 am in reply to: Exporting to DVD question

The format for DVD is indeed video track and audio track. Done right, you’ll have TWO files to bring to DVDStudio Pro… an m2v (video) and ac3 (audio).

    So…

In Compressor… use your 90 minute high quality export (or what ever) and make sure you select video AND audio… ac3. You might want to export ALL just incase.

Then take those two files into DVDSP and import them as assets.

Let me know if you have issues after that.

  • I’d do it with two layers of text white on top of black… then apply a feathered mask keeping the shape of the diagonal line so it hides the white and exposes the black.

But there might be another way.

Nest the clips and then apply to the nest. After you nest and apply, adjust by selecting the nest and hitting ENTER on your numeric keypad… not RETURN to send to the viewer without opening the nest.

  • I think the best way is to create a 720×480 ANAMORPHIC sequence. Then send it to compressor and it will retain anamorphic, BUT make sure to tell the track that you want it to be letterboxed on 4:3 sets. It’s in the track properties window. Select the offending track and then you’ll see it in the lower right.

    Good luck,
