I would like to have text rolling on this bar from right to left.
The text should start in black at the far right. As soon as a letter reaches the black part of the image it should change to white.

I tried and thought about various ways. But every solution i think of i can’t achieve with AE. I am now just doing it the hard way and duplicating/overlaying each letter in white. But that is so much work.

I’d do it with two layers of text white on top of black… then apply a feathered mask keeping the shape of the diagonal line so it hides the white and exposes the black.

But there might be another way.

Thanks. I was trying this too, but i am stuck on the mask part. When i apply a mask and draw around white part of the image it is moving along with the text. I don’t really understand what is going on.

Do you know how i can do this step by step?

Rather than animating the position of the text layers, you should use the built-in text animators.

1: Create your text layer, with black text.
2: Twirl down the layer and click the “Animate” button.
3: Select “Position”, and set keyframes on the newly created “position” property of “Animator 1”.
4: Duplicate your text layer and change the text color to white.
5: With the white text layer selected, use the pen tool to create a mask, following the shape of the white part of your graphic.
6: Change the masks mode to “Subtract”.

Hmm, I tried to upload (and embed) an example, but apparently, “The Cow” doesn’t like animated gifs.

Trying again, with a wmv file:

No, sorry. The file doesn’t like the embedded player, so I’ll just forget about an example.
