Here was my original post over at apple.com

    https://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5966041#5966041

Maybe I had already hosed it by the time I wanted to restore.

But I still recall just seeing ONE date after I put the system instal disc in and restoring from Time Machine. Plus, I couldn’t just drag folders because it didn’t have the same permissions. I was hosed.

Hate to say it, but I thought I could just (yes, like a pc) tell it to revert back to *this* date.

PS… “give it another shot..” I hope to NEVER have to do that again… but yes, I’ve got a free drive… I’ll start it up again tonight before going to bed.

No… Can you revert your system files? Can you pick a day in Time Machine and say revert my machine to THIS day? Unless they changed it in an update after I gave up on TM I’d say you cannot.

    David…

    Here’s a test for you…

Install a malicious version of QT on your computer and see if you can use TimeMachine to revert… No?

    Hmmm

See if something else breaks and you need to reinstall the system. And you want to use Time Machine to revert to Yesterday’s setup… You can’t??? Oh my!!

See if you can find that jpeg you accidently threw away from the desktop… Oh? You CAN!! wow!!! That’s helpful!!!

No… you cannot (shouldn’t) do anything else while capturing. I’m able to have other programs open, but I tend to stay away from anythng that might open a movie or too much CPU work.

As for date shot etc… ALL the meta data is actually brought in, just FCP (and apple) refuse to show it to you. If you open another program to look at the metadata you’ll see it.

I like CatDV (not sure if it works with HDV) to do my capturing and logging.

Or put a graphic COLOR on the video track to the top and use the opacity keyframe rubberband to fade it up.

Probably not the correct forum for this type of post. Maybe over at the Encore or Premiere forums??
