    Hi Paul, thanks for chiming in.

    Zooming out in the source monitor is what I used to do in CS6. It worked because the clips were trimmed to be a second long. But in CC, I can’t. The source monitor opens up a one second video, and I can’t zoom out any more than that one second. You know those little triangles that appear in the corners of clips in your timeline to indicate you’ve reached the end of that clip’s source? That’s what happens to all the clips after being made one second long. I’m posting a before and after screenshot.

    Before:

    After:

    Those triangles indicate you’ve reached the end of the clip. Premiere Pro CC, instead of trimming clips to a specified length, now treats the source video as if it were only as long as the specified length. Anybody else experience this? Tomorrow, I’ll be working on another machine and I’ll try it out there too and see if I can replicate the problem.

    Thanks everyone!

    Wow, excellent ideas. I’ll check out that tutorial for sure as soon as I can. I also liked the idea of exporting an AE composition as an image sequence. Crafty.

    Thanks guys!

  • One trick I’ve used in the past is to rename the clip from .MOV to .MPG. Something to do with the codec, not really sure what it does but it works a lot of the time.

    I’m sad to hear that FiLMiC Pro didn’t work out in this case. I’ve been looking to start using a program like that.

    OK, I think I’ve partially fixed the problem. After uninstalling both my Matrox driver and Mbox 2 driver, I reinstalled the Mbox driver and set the output in Premiere to Premiere Pro WDM Sound. That produces audio from Premiere. No sound if set to the Mbox. If I install my Matrox driver, we’re back to square one. So now, I’ll go bark up the Matrox tree for a while.

    Thanks for your input!

    Hi Angelo, thanks for the quick response. In Audition, I can select the MME option, but I’ve never seen it in Premiere.

    Below are three screenshots of my audio setup.

    I tried outputting through my Matrox MX02 Mini, and the sound came out, but it was very hot and distorted. It’s the only output configuration that yielded any kind of sound, but it was still unusable.

    Thanks in advance for the help!

    Same here. I see activity in the audio levels monitor, but no sound through my system. If I open a clip in Audition, I can hear it. All other system audio plays through whichever device I tell it to through windows. The problem lies in Premiere, and I’ve been all over the preferences, cleared them, etc. to no avail. Next up is a reinstall unless one of you can talk me out of it.

    The Vegas EDL looks like this. Each chunk is one line of the EDL. I split each value into different lines so it could be understood easier.

    “ID”;
    “Track”;
    “StartTime”;
    “Length”;
    “PlayRate”;
    “Locked”;
    “Normalized”;

    “SustainGain”;
    “CurveIn”;
    “GainIn”;
    “CurveOut”;
    “GainOut”;
    “Layer”;
    “Color”;
    “CurveInR”;
    “CurveOutR”:
    “PlayPitch”;
    “LockPitch”

    I tried renaming the file from .txt to .edl, but all it did was create an empty sequence in Premiere. I’m going to try to figure out what a Premiere EDL looks like and see if I can modify the EDL’s that AVCutty puts out. Any thoughts?

    [Angelo Lorenzo] “What does the Vegas EDL look like? Can you paste a portion?”

    You know, up until now, I’ve never used or looked into EDL’s. I will poke around with that when I get home tonight. You raise a good point about the chance of AE being a better tool for this too. I’ll follow up later tonight or tomorrow.

    Thanks!

  • You can indeed copy a clip from PP to AE. This achieves the same result as Dynamic Link (or right clicking and choosing “replace with AE composition”. The problem is still that when you paste (or dynamic link), you are pasting a composition into AE. You can’t directly apply stabilization to a composition (error: Stabilization analysis doesn’t work with Collapse Transformations). When opening the composition, you are presented with the video file in its entirety.

    I know you can go in and manually trim the clip within the composition, but this, to me, defeats the purpose of dynamic link. Is there a way to trim the contents of the composition to match the length of the composition itself? That way I can apply stabilization to a small portion of a large clip.

    I hope I’m not missing something ridiculously easy….
