The main issue that I can see is that the markers and text would be out of sync if someone edited the markers after the log was done.
If you had a “save both” button, then that’s all well and good if you use the VL interface. But… the minute someone made a new marker, the text would be out of sync and folks would start to gripe about that “feature”. 😉
Rolf is proposing three clicks or key commands, copy text, go to your text field and paste. Because the alternative is to risk the two fields that people assume are in sync, getting out of sync without them knowing. Also, with the either or version, if you go to VL and change your button push, the Markers move to the Notes and vice versa, if you let them get out of sync, changing that button push would overwrite some potentially necessary info without notification.
As the feature stands, it prevents data loss, unless you manually change the Notes and the extra steps, while mildly annoying, make the user realizes what’s being done.
You could maybe script a copy of the field’s data in the Worker, although I’ve never done that. But that’s one way to try it. I’ve been doing a lot of field replacements with Worker lately.

CatDV doesn’t have any device drivers.
That’s one for the record right there.
But, like fancy logitech mice, most pedals come with software that lets them emulate keystrokes. In the end, these are just “feet mice”.
The following is NOT a recommendation, merely an example. I have no knowledge of whether or not this works with CatDV but if a device sends a key command to your computer, CatDV will, like any application, receive it.

Man, I’m going more and more that way myself. As I move transcoding and proxy operations off to other machines I like the little baby servers.
Also, the Mac Mini cluster is pretty awesome for transcoding, driven by the Worker. I wish Apple would get Compressor 4 clustering straightened out so we could load Compressor legally for $50 and then it’ll be a no-brainer, 6 quad core macs in 3 rack spaces – 24 cores for like $6-7k.
Thunderbolt will let us go fibre even for SAN connected peeps.
Not great for a hardware dealer (there’s like $1 profit in that) but it’s a lot of power for not much bread.

It’s a change to Apple’s code for PPC machines.
I got the fix from Rolf and it worked.
“right click on the application and show contents, then copy the Contents/Resources/Java/libXXXX.jnilib files from b8 to b9”
I used the jnilib from a copy of 9.0b8 and dropped it into b9 (when I saw the PPC thing break) and it worked. I’m not sure if the beta is posted but if you wanna try that, email me and I’ll hit you back with the file and we’ll see if that gets you rolling as a hack.
Love the old stuff myself but there comes a time when a new mini looks pretty good. 😉

Using the “expand variables” options in the Worker you can name the files with any field you like and to any directory structure as well. Look at the area where you can move, rename, etc and you’ll see the ability to “expand” variables” if you then put a variable on the end of the path you’ll get the name you want from the output.
It takes a while to get comfortable with using variables. If you’ve got the time and desire, dig in and play, you can work miracles. If you don’t or don’t want to, just hire it done and get back to work making video. lol Most of my clients get far enough to lay out a workflow and then we take it the last mile and jump in as needed. Once you’ve done a few, you can then copy and edit the one’s you have to get rolling. I know you’ve worked with Kevin before, maybe hit him up and book a little session to get you started.
Obviously you can also get the XML out with the export command and from there set up a shell command to ftp it all up as well. Some of my clients keep the original name and add the new data like “name-clipREF.mov” so that they have a human readable version but if that’s not important ClipREF is a great way to go.
The Worker is the most powerful part of this whole suite but as with a lot of things in life, it’s also the most challenging. It’s cool to see you digging in.

You can also try exporting tab separated and taking it into Excel. I do that a lot for making “pretty” reports.

I’ve used a three button one with a program called “Video Footware”. I think it’s long gone now.
It didn’t really catch on, but I see a few on Amazon that should work fine.
We programmed left = skip back – middle = pause/play and Right was enter TC.

I’ve heard Lion is fine, you have to install MySQL as it no longer ships with it but other than that, the word is that things are good.
Rolf, what’s the word on the processors? I’d assume drive speed is more critical, maybe an SSD with a backup clone would be a good speed boost as well now that they are cheap.
