After reading this, one, I’m about 100% sure it’s not CatDV related. I notice that you discussed mapping ports with your ISP. Do you not a=have a router inside your network that you admin yourself? Make sure, because a lot of LAN’s have an internal router as well as the one that’s provided by the ISP and that may not be routing 8080 through. Also, I tend to start with the ports wide open as a DMZ to the server and then turn ports off as we trim down. That way it’s easier to test and confirm that my routes are set up correctly. (You can log in to other services that way, for instance.)
Are you the network admin yourself or is there someone else who’s doing this with you? Is this a small LAN or are there hundreds of users? All of these things will determine how you proceed. I’m assuming this is a smaller setup from reading your site so if there’s not a full time network admin you may have to do some trial and error.
The steps you are taking seem correct but I suspect there may be either another router or a wrong setting in the one you have. I’d check to make sure that your ISP’s router is indeed routing the IP traffic to that box and that there’s not a wireless router or something also on the LAN that might be confusing things.
Simplify… and go from there, or call in some outside help. If you can see the Web Client in-house but not outside this isn’t a CatDV issue.

Did you get this sorted? We will have this ready after the holidays if you still need it. It’s running solidly in beta now.
The workflow publishes to YouTube the video, the Title, Description, Category and Keywords from CatDV metadata and then once the video is published it records the URL from YouTube back into your clip record so you can both quickly view it, and track the original file it came from.
This workflow requires Worker Node v4 to publish the URL back to CatDV automatically. Otherwise we can write it to a local log file if you have Worker 3.

Once again, the HTML Publisher rears it’s head.
Sorry that one got you. Since it’s come up, I’ll chime in on this one.
The “Web Client” is now the main web server version of CatDV. It’s the one most folks are talking about when they speak of CatDV and the web. This has a ready to go interface out of the box and can send and receive data to and from the CatDV Server, it is directly connected.
The “HTML Publisher” although it’s named as if it’d be the way to share the CatDV data over “HTML”… is no longer the main way we use CatDV over the web. It’s an older framework that requires a good bit of JSP web publishing knowledge to set up a workable interface and permissions. It’s effective and powerful but usually only used by folks who have web teams or programmers to set it up and manage it. It only publishes the data out from CatDV, it is not interactive, in that you cannot edit the metadata in the HTML Publisher.
HTML Publisher is mentioned in the docs and web site from Squarebox so they are often mixed up.
Hope this clears things up a bit for folks.

You also need to check the permissions in the User Admin panel. Depending on the production group, role and user permissions, you may not have permissions to do certain actions. Check your docs to see if you’ve got the settings setup correctly.

It’s done in the tree, under “Server” under “Catalogs”.
The key is that they look like folders in the tree, but they list as “folder/catalog” instead of seeing a folder icon in the “Browse Database” view. That may be what’s confusing you, there’s no “folder” in that view, only in the tree.

Very different things.
This is a bit much to go over in a forum post. Contact a dealer, get a demo of CatDV, or check out the demos on youtube or catdvexperts.com.
There is not a lot of comparison between CatDV’s server system and Bridge and FMP. It’s more like a merging of those two products.
For instance, and this is about all I can go into, CatDV can automatically ingest your video footage, extract pertinent metadata (automatically) and then enter that into your database, automatically meaning that you don’t have to type names, or locations, or codec or, or, or… you get it. Additionally it can handle hundreds of thousands to million assets.
CatDV is more in the range of Dalet or North Plains or Media Beacon as far as comparisons go and if you want to look at Apples vs. Apples. Price-wise, CatDV starts in the thousands of dollars for a server-based system whereas the others you mention are a few hundred at most.
Final answer, CatDV scales better than Bridge and handles media better than Filemaker but is in a different price range from both.

Thank you Bob and Rolf both. There are tons of regex resources on the web, but a lot of them give info that doesn’t pertain to the app but this should be enough to start from.
Worker Node is not an app, it’s a career. 😉

Not to my knowledge, I’m assuming there are duration issues, etc. But Rolf could that be turned on?
It’s hard since for video you have to know that proxies and their hires have to have exact TC or “bad things happen”. If you break the proxy/hires link then you risk allowing people to ruin their editorial projects, so it has to be something that is not taken lightly.
