I’d also like to add that PF as a field ID is not useable in the CLI. That would be a useful one to add to the Worker.

CatDV can inject metadata into P2 clips so that you can read that data into the next system that imports it.
Most people send metadata to another system as an XML sidecar file. This is particularly common between MAM systems. Usually data doesn’t live “in” the wrapper.
If you need to inject metadata into another type file, (into the QT metadata for example, or WMV or EXIF data) you have to use outside tools.
The North Shore crew is currently scripting a few different versions of this to offer it as a service, depending on your format. But we’re taking our time so that they are deployable in a solid, reliable way. But we expect to be able to do QT, WMV and JPG via EXIF.
Or, if you’re handy and want to DIY, there are tools online to do this.
Note that each format or wrapper has varying amounts of metadata that can be injected. EXIF has virtually unlimited slots, whereas QT & WMV have only a few.

I’ve not run into that, but in some good news, Episode now includes their extensive command line interface with the app as of 6.2.
I’d look into that as it adds a ton of features that you can run from the CLI.

If you’re doing sequences as a QT ref, I’ve seen tons of issues with these. Usually it’s an effect or mixed format as you mentioned.
Media Composers seem to do a better job with ref exports in my experience but Media Composer users tend to work in more controlled formats as well which might explain some of that. (Don’t start a flame war here, just sharing my experience!) 😉
I love refs for speed but I’ve not been able to make them reliable above the clip level. Anyone else have experience to share?

Sorry, I assumed that you had seen the command to set the Poster Frame. So I didn’t mention it.
I encourage everyone to spend some time just hovering your mouse over the controls in CatDV. The tool tips are great.

Strange, does the poster frame not automatically get printed?
The feature I need is a set timecode for the first thumbnail so that slates will always be pulled. We have a client or two clamoring for that.

Worker Node can send files via ftp, although on larger files with versions before Worker v5, you can have trouble with time-outs so you might want to brake the transfers out to a separate script.
Using CatDV you can copy files to any volume that will mount to the OS (there are utilities that will allow you to mount the ftp volume to your machine) but as has been mentioned here, it won’t preserve the folder structure of those copies.

This points to one of the biggest distinctions between Server and Stand-alone systems.
Catalogs mean much less when you are working in Server, whereas in Stand-alone, they are everything.
If it were to be made multi-line I am worried that it would drive people crazy who have 10,000 catalogs (and up) since your scrolls and window layout would make the view huge and maybe unwieldy.
I can’t speak for the Dev team but I’d bet they’d say that metadata is for clips, not catalogs.
Remember, in a Server, a “catalog” is just another metadata field, like a keyword for those clips. And “where” a clip is can be fluid, thereby leaving any Catalog metadata behind when the clip moves.
As to the views, so much is dependent on Java. That’s one of the toughest things about working with CatDV. Java allows us all to have cross platform apps, but so much in those apps is out of the programmer’s control. (Damn you Larry Ellison!!) But let’s see what the crew in the UK say.

Any catalogs in the deleted group will become part of the “anonymous” group, only visible to the admin.
The clips in those catalogs and their data should be preserved. As always, test first.
