first thing is first. I’m very cheap. haha I don’t have money for a Raid system. my SSD External is 1TB. It still have a good 700GB left on it. Here is the specs of my computer.

    iMac 27 inch

    Processor 3.4Ghz Intel Core i7

    Memory 8GB 1600MHz DDR3

Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048MB

I also have a fusion drive in my iMac.

now here is a question. If I record natively at 35mbps and I transcode to Apple Pro Res 422 will it change the fact that it’s a 35mbps file or will it keep it the same mbps? Do you recommend I transcode to 422 or 422HQ?

I have but I was told by another editor I shouldn’t have to transcode and AVCHD should be fast enough.

I’ve been trying my hardest to match exposure the same from shot to shot. Although trying to teach this to my filmmaker who’s learning film is a bit tricky.

Never mind I just found this. https://documentation.apple.com/en/finalcutpro/professionalformatsandworkflows/index.html#chapter=10%26section=4%26tasks=true

It says 1920 x 1080 at 29.97 fps is 147 Mbps at Apple ProRes 422. Does that mean if I shoot in MP4 at 35MBPS and Transcode to 422 I will still be at 35MBS since I can’t gain anything else?

    Quick Question.

Lets say you compare MP4 35MBPS to AVCHD 25MBPS. Is there really significant video quality difference that everyone is going to notice or are they only going to notice if they had a side by side comparison?

yes. my xa25 has a mp4 35MBPS. Question is this. If I record in MP4 35MBPS and transcode to Pro Res do I lose the 35MBPS or does it keep it?

I have El Capitan installed on a second external SSD. That way I can test things out before I install it on my mains macs hard drive
