I understand what you’re saying but I don’t think this is the case. I meant to mention that this happens with a project in DVCPROHD – both 720p from p2 cards like an HVX and 1080p24 DVCPRO HD when I was cutting a feature shot on a couple F900s. It seems like it happens no matter what as long as I have a 16:9 output file size (it formats correctly when I did a 4:3 test project).
Regarding your prores trick… are you saying once I’m done editing a show in HDV, I can change the compressor on the timeline settings to prores and it won’t take as long to export out a file to compressor or do you mean it won’t take as long to export a current settings quicktime file from FCP? Thanks!

Thank you my friend but I already know about apple’s majorly inflated prices and purchase my memory through Crucial. Comparing prices, you can get four 1 gig sticks of ddr2 PC4200 memory for ~$90 vs. $199 at 4allmemory for four 1 gig sticks of DDR-400 PC3200… strange that the two sites recommend different kinds of memory. I’ve been told that both work fine but just not to mix brands.

Thank you, I felt like I was going crazy like Rip Van Winkle and all this time I had been zipping along on my 2.3 g5 these past years working happily, my zip turned into a putt and the world changed without me knowing or something 😉
I actually did mix memory brands and it doesn’t seem to be QUITE as stable but nothing big. The only reason was my mac store ran out of Samsung memory.

Really? I thought you just needed an even number of modules… I have:
256 MB (x2)
1 gb (x2)
512 MB (x2)… and have two empty slots. Anyways, so it sounds like I should be ok with editing XDCAM stuff since it’s not effects heavy? Thanks guys!

Hmmmm, I thought 3.5 was fine for the old IBM G5 chips because of the way the processor uses memory or something but with the new intel machines you’d need more. Maybe I’m wrong on this? So you just edit native XDCAM and you’re good to go I guess? Maybe very close to my little experience I’ve had with HDV, which edits fine but it isn’t fun to add too many filters to an HDV clip because of rendering…

Thanks for your help David. Well Boomerang would start to recover some files and then crash and the files it did get were badly corrupted and once I had followed their instructions to reformat the Raid there was no way to run Disk Utility so faced with spending more time in vain to get the work back, I decided to just start over so I can at least spend today relinking and recreating sound files etc. and moving forward trying to get this thing up and running again so I can move on to my other film waiting in the wings before those clients get angry… it’s really painful though. Well lesson learned about Disk Warrior and making backups not only of the video media but of all the media and work that comes with those little still images, icons, sfx and music files I imported and tweaked over all those months…
I seldom have drive issues or technical problems… wow this blows.

Yes. I’ve been trying to get “boomerang” to work which said I needed to reformat the drives into a new raid (all four drives are working now so I think a little data just got corrupted for whatever reason on that one drive and it freaked out the stripe) since you have to have a functioning raid showing up to access the data spread across but that program has been crashing and the only files I’ve gotten are badly distorted video files…

I’m sorry, I skipped over some critical info there in my panic…
RAID 0, and I already tried rebooting, tried drive order and cable order but one drive seems to have failed. And yes I meant that it was OSX telling me there was a problem. The big question then is… does drive order matter in a software raid stripe or did one of my drives just fail on me? Thanks guys…

Ouch, I captured now in huge chunks. With so many tapes, I can’t shuttle through and set ins and outs for all my clips as we’re on a tighter timeline than most features I work on so I was just going to capture now the entire tapes (usually there’s tc breaks to make new clips for every different take but this tape is different as it’s continuous TC so I’m getting huge clips).
I have no idea about the master needed… so if I edit in 29.97 does that shut down some of my options later on?
I’m only 6 tapes in, what would you recommend doing, for a capture method with this project?

So just to verify, use the easy setup capturing and with the timeline for 1080i60? Can I keep the footage already captured? If it’s going back to TV either SD or HD then will CT need to be used by the post house at some point to remove the pulldown?
