You “could” do similar effects using just Vegas Pan/Crop or Track Motion and a graphic element with a transparent background created in photoshop, but it depends on what you are trying to achieve- if you are trying to do the “Indiana Jones” style map line that gets tricky, it’s better to use a 2D animation software. I think you can get a really cut down version of ToonBoom studio for free.

  • Joe,
Thanks for the reply, forgive my insisting but like many of you I actually work in media production for a living so I really don’t think it’s “just me” unless I’m really missing something extremely important here like a setting of somekind-
The files we are using are 720×540 JPG’s and 16 bi 48KHz wav files (if that matters to you)
    It was a simple procedure-
1.We put 6 JPG’s into the slide show as well as 6 WAV files
2.Changed the slide durations to match that of the corresponding WAV files.
    3. Build DVD folder

Resulting VOB has artifacts mentioned above, which were also experienced by I don’t know how else to explain a ghosted image of the following slide appearing over the current slide- George (Geo) also experienced this exact same problem. Visiting the Adobe website indicates that there are problems with some other transitions in the program, and their helpful (useless) advice (use another transition)has been posted above. (here is that link: https://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/332133.html ) of course those do not apply to the standard dissolve transitions.

So, my question is, is it the MPEG codec I have?
Is there a pre-rendering or export function I am missing?
George has experienced the same problem.

Note: The fully authored disk looks fine (I took a chance on authoring even though the VOB itself does not just to see if it’s something in the VOB player) so it may just be something odd there-
I’m just trying to understand the problem at this point becuase I don’t want this thing to rear it’s ugly head after we commit to making a full program with it.

    Thanks for any help-
    B

  • Yes, that’s exactly it- we set it up using simple dissolves (called cross dissolves in Encore)-
This was just a test to explore the new slideshow feature- we set up maybe 6 slides of varying lengths (based on the length of a .wav file per slide) and the first slide comes on and you can see a slightly ghosted version of the next slide just sitting there and then it transitions and it loads up the next slide with a ghosted version of the side following that one- It’s terrible!

Any insights? Adobe’s online FAQ offers the helpful hint: If you are having problems with certain transitions, use another transition…

Gee thanks! How about FIXING the features that your software supposedly offers…

Anyone have any other insights into this problem? It’s obviously not just me-

    Thanks,
    B

  • Colud it be the MPEG codec? Can anyone else confirm that this is a demo issue?

    Thanks for the reply-

It requires a 32 bit file- the “extra” 8 bits are for the alpha channel.

  • OK-

I figured it out…this is embarassing, but it goes to show you that sometimes you can convince yourself that what you are seeing is what you are seeing, when really you are seeing something else.

Opening the new project as I stated, I easily entered numbers into the rotation box and got all the spinning I wanted…
Opening the old project again, I kept changing those numbers and they kept reverting back to negative compliments to 360! OR SO I THOUGHT. After careful study of everything I was seeing I realized that I was putting these numbers into the ORIENTATION box and not the ROTATION box!!! :-0
They look alot alike and are right on top of each other- but I was so convinced that I was putting them in the right box, I didn’t notice it was the “Orientation” box. Opening a new project, with a clean slate- it was easy to put them in the right spot and cleared my vision as to what I was doing.

    🙂

    Thanks guys

  • Thanks for the replies.
I opened a new project and sure enough any entries of numbers higher than 180 work FINE!
But in the project I am working on…they still revert to negative complimentary numbers when I reach above 180! 🙁 ???

There must be some kind of setting for this, an option or something I’m not seeing.

Anyone have any insight into WHY this is happening? I’d just like to understand it at this point.
    Thanks-
    B
