I’m pretty sure Larry Jordan did a tutorial on placing Jake Gyllenhaal over moving fish. Or was it Stephen Smith. Anyway, the Gyllenfish effect might even be in the software manual.

Even when I select one character, pick Adjust Glyph (which itself is a little tricky to figure out) and change the Z value, it applies to the whole word…

    Argh.

  • Hi. Bits will be shot at HD but they will probably amount to less than 15% of things. Certainly less than 25.

I don’t have specs for individual festivals. I was hoping to learn of a setting / workflow that would provide me with the greatest flexibility to meet the requirements of festivals as necessary at the end.

I suppose the question that might really solve things is…

When you have a Motion project in your FCP timeline (after ‘sending to’) it more or less makes that Motion clip independent of the source footage, from what I can tell.

Suppose I want to extend the Motion clip 30 frames earlier at the beginning (or even one) – is there a way to re-link up to the source file so I can just access those frames as part of the same Motion project, and just extend the filters / titles / whatever back along with the underlying video?

My problems may be arising from ignorance of user-friendly shortcuts and workarounds…

    Thanks for the tips.

It now seems that if I want to experiment with upscaling the footage to something playable as “HD or the best facsimile” that conversion to ProRes422 becomes necessary.

    If I understand correctly.

If one is upscaling interlaced DV footage using the Compressor method, into ‘best impression of HD’ footage, at what point in the process should de-interlacing be applied?

Prior to conversion? After but before editing? Only when editing is done and before exporting the final product?

    Thanks for the recommendation.

From what I have been able to turn up, they seem to have discontinued this plugin because Compressor caught up to it.

Is that consistent with people’s experience?

Magic Bullet Instant HD Advanced Discontinued

Why has Magic Bullet Instant HD Advanced Been Discontinued?

Our goal at Red Giant is to always offer unique products that are a high value and the best of breed in their respective category. If a product does not meet this criteria, we either add new features or consider discontinuing it.

Since the release of Magic Bullet Instant HD Advanced in 2008, image scaling has become more sophisticated. Built-in tools such as Apple Compressor are now quite strong. Based on this development, we decided Instant HD Advanced no longer meets our criteria and will be discontinued and removed from our product catalog. This means Magic Bullet Instant HD Advanced will NOT be redeveloped for use in Adobe CS5.

    Thanks.

That’s all I’ve wanted. I know I can’t turn SD into something originally shot HD. I just want to do everything in my power to get the quality as high (less crappy) as possible.

Does this technique with Compressor need to be done with the entire source file, or can it be done simply with a segment in an FCP timeline?

    Interesting thread.

I don’t have anything to add technically, just noting that the Larry Jordan article and the original question seem to address some issues that I have been trying to solve. And so far, I think my questions have just made me come across like a nutcase trying to do something impossible.
