Thanks Harris and all the others above.
At least I know I’m not alone. But my frustration is that we even have to accept that this is how it is. That WE have to find the workaround right out of the box.I’ve managed to do a bit of what each of you have suggested, and now I can use it for a few hours at at time. Then Resolve crashes, and I have to restart EUCON in system prefs.
I still can’t get the page buttons to work, so I just use the balls and wheels. It’s still a help, but it’s a pain in the ass.
I expect my brand new car (or iPad, or camera or trash disposal) to do what it is supposed to without hassle. And if I AM having problems with is, I expect some knowledgable people to be eager to help me solve the problem. I haven’t found this with AVID. I can’t even get their support page to accept my login 1/2 the time. (maybe that’s another issue, but still applies more salt to the wound) And when it does it doesn’t offer any other solution.
I don’t want to think that I have to spend 30K to have something work right.
Just take Resolve for example. We are playing with Beta 11, when Resolve 10 still won’t export correctly to FCPX, OR work right on a properly specced out new MacPro.
Exporting and EXL to a NLE. THAT’S what should work. I want THAT process to be like butter before I even care about my grading software being able to edit. (oh, the penny just dropped. They won’t fix XML Export because then we’ll just edit right in Resolve! =) …kidding… kinda)
*sigh* At any rate, I’m glad to even have buggy software and hardware, but I’d REALLY be glad to have non-buggy software and hardware.
Sincerely thanks to all who have offered support.

How about the Tangent Element TK Panel?
Anyone have experience with that? If it works smoothly, then I have an MC Color and MC Transport for sale.Steadicam Op / DP :: http://www.fowlerfilms.com

It also sucks that once I DO get it working, every time I push “page” on the console I have to hit a key on my keyboard for the page on the console to accept the command.
*deep breath*
Ok…That’s all for now. =)

Thanks for the reply Marc,
It’s good to know that I’m not the only one going through the same issues.
You’ve actually provided more support than Avid’s support team, or their wonky forums. If you were local I’d buy you a coffee.
Speaking of coffee, I’m about to make mine, and go see if I can tempt this beast into working for the day. =)
BTW, do you happen to remember WHO you talked to at AVID about the MC Color. It’d be nice to talk to them directly.

December 22, 2013 at 5:12 pm in reply to: Can I ‘unwrap’ an MXF file that FCPX ‘wrapped’ to .mov?well, that would be great if it were an option. C300 won’t over crank and do 1080p =)
I keep nudging them over in this thread:
Maybe if I can find more C300 / FCPX users to do the same it will help.OR if I could find someone who’s resolve or FCPX doesn’t mess up, then I’d know it’s my fault. (or at least have something more to troubleshoot)

December 22, 2013 at 5:03 pm in reply to: Can I ‘unwrap’ an MXF file that FCPX ‘wrapped’ to .mov?Yep. I’m confused too.
Seems like the Blackmagic guys are confused too. They just keep saying. “it’s an unsupported codec” conveniently ignoring the fact that it’s MXF, and the 1080p version, and unwrapped version works fine.. *sighs*
If I can’t find a way to unwrap these, I’ll just end up rendering out all 7 of these projects, and doing scene cut detection on them. but I’d REALLY like to avoid that, on this one, and in the future.
This is also happening to 2 other editors that I know. different cameras, different FCPX systems.

Thanks guys for the replies.
Yes, 2/3 in would be better. I’ve been in the super35 world so long I forgot my roots.
We started looking at Panasonic 370s, and maybe 500s. with 17x lenses for the ones closer to the stage, and 33x for the one in the far back of the room.
We are getting the ATEM production 2 switcher from a school.. (I think that’s the name) with fiber tally. BUT I didn’t think to ask how long the fiber runs were for them. AND I didn’t think about the fragile cable thing. Maybe we can run it against the wall, and cover the thresholds? It’s in a hotel, and it’s a TED talk style event, so no crazy dancing, but still lots of people.
If we went without the tally, and just did straight ClearComs that might be easier? (all three cameras will have easy viewing of what is live, so A tally might not be super critical.
I was planning on NOT going with CCU, just because of the expense, and we don’t have anyone to do shading. I’m already directing a switching. I don’t mind that, but I haven’t done it in years, so… we’ll see how that goes. hah

I agree. It’s strange.
I’m looking at two file’s Get Info windows. One is visible, the other not.
