Thank you Walter. As an old film guy I should have known that. Guess I’m to old to remember 🙂

And thanks for the shortcut, I did not know that, although I think someone else here provided that too.
That’s likely how it happened to me — I probably had cmd key pressed accidentally.

thanks to all, the scales have finally fallen from my eyes and I’m back to work. Is this format setting saved with the project?

Thanks, Todd. I have looked there in the past and changed it back and forth with no difference — but now it worked. Magic! What IS that format? I’ve never seen it elsewhere. and it seems to happen randomly while working on a project.

“No such thing as a dumb question”, as I have always told students. This happens to me all the time, with FCP also.

I work on a MacBook Pro; at home or in a properly equipped studio I connect a larger monitor as a dual desktop, and elsewhere I am on just the laptop display, for quick comps.

I have never found a easy fix, although there are a couple apps out there that help — one is Moom, which I tried, but I have this reluctance to run other apps while in AE or FCP, which are memory hogs.

Set up the best possible workspace for the project you are in, then assign a hotkey to it. I often need to have different workspaces for different projects, and use “Standard” when using the on-board display at a coffee shop or wherever.

It’s two years later, now, did you guys ever figure this out? 🙂

Every once in a while I check this discussion out it seems, and no one knows yet… It’s kind of amusing, actually; it’s become sort of a hobby:)

Most of the time I work on this MacBook Pro with an extra monitor so I don’t care, I shuffle windows around a lot and have saved workspaces. but when I run it on just the laptop screen, it’s FUBAR. Makes me crazy (and terribly unproductive). With most apps, there’s a file or two somewhere to just trash, and boom, back to factory specs, right? And I have only one good hand, so that key combo stuff is problematic for me to begin with. So anything new? I have time between stuff and no extra monitor.

Command+Option+/ !!! Thank you! I was going nuts trying to remember that… An odd thing happened though. All the layers in my comp disappeared. Ever see this?

Not so dumb, I find this a really annoying Mac “feature” in general, that you can’t move the window by moving any edge of it, just the top bar, so if that is off screen, you are screwed, and sometimes different workspaces in AE just make it worse. any other ideas for quick solutions. this constantly happens, bugs me to no end.
