The switches turn on and off on the layers (nothing is shied of course). It is the switch at the top of the timeline that is supposed to toggle the shying on and off that does not seem to fnction

    Thanks Dave

I took your cue about the IT person. I covered myself in my security blanket so nobody could see me and did the unthinkable—I read the AE Help section on “Preview”. Seems that I had skip set to 5 along with some not very close to 29.97 frame rate set. Changing these setting to 0 and “auto” did the trick. Just don’t tell anyone I had to read the instructions or my cachet as the house AE jock is blown.

February 6, 2014 at 5:34 pm in reply to: after effects via thunderbolt drive

I’ve been using a Drobo Mini with 4x HGST Travelstar 7K100 1 TB 7200 rpm drives plus a 128K SSD accelerator via Thunderbolt to a new iMac. All the AE projects and footage are on the Drobo which moves back and forth weekly between two locations. So far seems to work great.

    Thank you all.

    Repaired permissions
reset permission on entire preference folder to r/w

still does the same dastardly things

This is, by the way, a brand new iMac with the factory installed OS X (a pretty standard beast as far as Adobe developers might be concerned)

More thoughts happily explored. In the meantime I think Dave is right, I’ll just work in AE 6.0 until the dust settles. (Hmmm, that suggests another experiment. Does this happen with AE 6?)

    Roland

Thanks so much. Didn’t realize the feature was available. Very helpful indeed

Still need to uninstall some non-CC Adobe apps, but I think I have a work-around albeit a clumsy one. The uninstall works properly on my “Big Rig” so I plan to restore that machine’s system folder to the smaller machine on which uninstall is currently not working. Oughta’ work–or maybe not

If–and that’s the big if–you have access Light Room you could do an import, select all the images and flip them.

I was just playing with the iPhone and wile you can flip individual images you don’t seem to be able to select a group and do the same.

December 10, 2013 at 9:14 pm in reply to: Comp generated each time footage dragged to timeline

    Hi Todd

Thanks for the comeback. While I figure out a screen capture and how to upload it to the forum, I’ll try to talk you thru it.

    1) I’ve imported a single PSD file into the project panel (via standard double click & open)

    2) I click and drag this footage from the project panel to the timeline panel

    3) AE instantly generates a comp in the project panel with the exactly same name as the footage (without the PSD suffix of course)

December 3, 2013 at 12:36 pm in reply to: Noisy import of PSD image sequence

Yup, that’s what it’s doing. Whether I drag footage to the layer list, the comp window, or directly onto the timeline AE generates a new comp. Perhaps this is what is supposed to happen and I never noticed it, but I don’t recall seeing it before and I don’t find it documented in the online help or in Meyer’s CMG with AE. Weird indeed.

I’m running AE 6.0, but I just now installed AE CC. Same behavior. (Guess there’s something to be said about instant access to updates with CC)
