Image size / format best practices
OK, after my last totally arcane posting I have a truly newbie question.
I just loaded a 40 frame 16 bit PSD image sequence (thinking I might want to do some subtle color work). And then I began to wonder if I was setting myself up for a big performance hit re RAM preview and rendering. Is this the case? Would it be better practice to work out the details of the project with a JPG sequence and then only pull in the heavy duty files just before color correction and final rendering?

With JPEG, your color work will be compromised. It’s best to work with the same color fidelity as the final files. I suggest that you instead work with proxies, which are a smaller or lower resolution (pixel-wise) relative to the final files. Having said that, since you only have a small number of frames, you might as well just go ahead and work with the final files, from the very start. I doubt that your system will be greatly troubled by RAM previewing 40 frames. As and when required; when RAM Preview fails to render the entire Work Area, you can always reduce the comp resolution and zoom values.
