Thanks. Interesting idea, but it didn’t work. I tried to relink the footage after the save from QT and also just deleted it from DR and reloaded it. No deal.

What do you think is going here?

Yes, method 1 should work. I’ve followed the manual very carefully and watch several videos, so I know my technique is correct. But no, I don’t think it is a version problem as the reason I am at 15.2.4 is that I encountered the problem in the earlier version.

Aha! I think I figured this out. I applied the FX to a node in the color module rather than to the clip in the editor. That way I could make a still grab which essential captures all the modification info in the clip and permits it to be applied down the line.
