  • Apply grade not working

Posted by Bruce Gaber on March 6, 2019 at 9:37 pm

I’m trying to apply a simple grade from a still to a clip and it just does not work. I’ve captured the still and tried both methods. I.e 1) select the target clip; “middle click” the still from which I want to copy the grade…and 2) select the target clip; right click the still>apply grade. Neither works. It has worked before.

This may be a clue to those in the know: When I select the target clip and then click and mouse-over the the still I see the TARGET clip in the viewer and also in what was the thumbnail of the of the still. And I can scrub thru the entire clip on the still thumbnail. It seems as if when I middle click or “apply grade” it is applying the target grade back onto itself. Weird.

I have rebooted and installed DR 15.2.4

This is now project-critical, All help very much appreciated

Hi Bruce, I cannot really help, as your method #1 is what I use and it works for me. I’m on 15.2.3, as I have an audio issue with 15.2.4, so went back to 15.2.3.

    Best Regards……George

    Thanks George

Yes, method 1 should work. I’ve followed the manual very carefully and watch several videos, so I know my technique is correct. But no, I don’t think it is a version problem as the reason I am at 15.2.4 is that I encountered the problem in the earlier version.

    Best

I have not seen this exact problem, but I have on rare occasions had cases where middle-mouse-click stops working. Usually quitting and relaunching the problem brings it back (sometimes for days). I think it’s an intermittent thing.

Just curious: what kind of mouse are you using? I specifically use a wired 3-button mouse with Resolve on the Mac because I think it’s more reliable. Wireless mice are flakey for me, and trackpads are frustrating and weird. (But I have zero problems with Trackpads on most other programs.) But I use a lot of Powercurve windows sometimes.

I had the same exact problem a few weeks ago. My method was to left click on the still and drag it onto the node, but at some point it stopped applying the grade. It would create whatever number of nodes were in the still but all of the nodes would have no grading applied to them.

Resolve is always doing weird stuff like this. I found that if I created a new project, it would start working again. I would save a still for each clip in your timeline, and then apply them in the new project. Hopefully you won’t have to go that far as creating a new project, but as a last resort I’ve always found that method works, even for the other quirks that Resolve developed (like OpenFX suddenly not appearing when I click on it).

if you are in sizing mode the copy process would only copy the sizing, and if you haven’t change sizing it could appear as if nothing happens. (you have to be in color or all mode…).

plus, there are options to skip nodes etc. in the copy grade process. right click anywhere in an empty gallery space and check those settings as well…

No, this is in color mode. It’s a real problem. Sometimes switching back and forth to the Edit page and back to Color solves the problem. Quitting and relaunching ALWAYS solves the problem. I believe it’s a bug in Keyboard Shortcuts but have not confirmed it.

Copying and pasting is also problematic on the Edit page, I think it’s a related issue. Sometimes it works great; sometimes not.

I use a Kensington trackball with the top two buttons ganged to give “middle click”

This really helped me with this f%^&* gotcha. Thank you so much!! (just clicked on the curves pane and grades were back to to copying). What an easy fix to a huge mind numbing frustrating problem! Thank you!!
