January 3, 2008 at 2:38 am in reply to: Authoring anomaly? Or just the bizarre nature of dvd9?No, nothing.
It is an image–a still photograph of a face with motion applied–the camera moves from her chin up to her head. It is halfway through the motion that it experiences a skip (but only on select dvd players).
I am going to run an analysis on the original file to see if there is a dropped frame or anything like that. Like I said, it only happens on selected dvd players.
What I can’t understand is that the original burned dvd9 disc does not experience the same thing on these players. However, the replication facility claims that the replicated disc is an exact copy and that both the original, the master and the replicated discs all play the same on their players.
To me, this sounds like a replication issue and not an Encore issue. So I am at a loss. Before I confront the company further, I want to completely rule out Encore.
Then again, dvd9s can be rather quirky.
Thanks for your help.

January 2, 2008 at 11:53 pm in reply to: Authoring anomaly? Or just the bizarre nature of dvd9?Thanks Dan. Next time I think I will output a dvd folder and then master the ddp in Gear—or, not use Encore and learn another authoring program that gives more options.
As for the anomaly on the dvd, the replication facility thinks it might be an issue with Encore—that Encore has done something to the file at that point that is more susceptible on Sony players.
I, myself, have know idea.

The dvd’s will be replicated. I am going to have a limited edition of the film pressed. I am leaning towards the dvd-9 so that the quality will be there as well as space for some bonus footage (plus subtitles).
Right now, the film is on a single layer disk—but I have only about 500 mega-bytes left–not enough for a half-hour or so of bonus material.

Thanks Ty,
I am creating dubs from DV to DigiBeta and BetaSp to be used at film festivals, not necessarily for broadcast. Do your levels still apply to the particluar medium or is this more of a sound issue for where-ever the production will be shown? In other words, am I safe at -6db for film festival use for both DigiBeta and BetaSP?
Thank you for your help. I greatly appreciate it.

November 4, 2006 at 7:39 pm in reply to: Converting footage from 29.97 to 24p. Is it possible without losing quality?Magic bullet, I think, does an excellent job at conversion to 24p. But—as was mentioned, if you want great 24p its best to simply shoot in 24p. I also shoot with a Sony dvx2000 and Magic Bullet can do some amazing things with footage from that camera. It takes a long time to render. If I have a large quantity of footage that needs to be 24p, I simply borrow or rent a camera that can shoot in 24p. Next year I will need a couple of new cameras and will definitely go with one that shoots 24p. The big question for me at this point is whether or not to go HD.

November 2, 2006 at 2:18 pm in reply to: HELP!!! Can’t Load Premiere Pro 1.5 project files! Thanks for your advice.
The auto-save files did not load either. However, I decided to turn the computer off—walk away for a little bit (instead of throwing the computer out the window). About an hour later, I tried again. One of the auto-save files managed to load—although it took over 20 minutes. It’s all there–except for the rendered preview files.
So I am relieved.
Any advice on how to avoid this in the future. Should I auto-save on a different drive?
Thanks for your help.

I looked through the posts here and it seems that using Encore formaking subtitles is not a good idea.
Anyone use Subtitle Workshop to create subtitles? I am moving in that direction.
Thanks

Thanks for the reply, Tim.
I am running the latest version of 1.5.1. I have 6 buttons on each page.
However, I did trim the project in the timeline. I think that may be my problem. I’ll try undoing the trim and check the motion buttons again. But if that is the issue, why does it not effect the still image? When the animation is off, the still is in the exact poster frame.
Thanks for your help.
