  • HELP!!! Can’t Load Premiere Pro 1.5 project files!

    Posted by Bruce David janu on November 2, 2006 at 4:29 am

    I have a disaster on my hands. When saving a recent project, the program froze—and I needed to cancel the save. When I attempted to load the project again, the project freezes during the load (with all but one of the green bars displayed)–the external hard drive merely flashes.

    In fact, when I search for the file, I can no longer find it; in other words, it is not in the location where it was originally saved. I did a scan of the hard drive and there are no bad sectors or errors. It appears I can access the individuals files that made up the project, but I can’t load the project itself. There are 5 auto-saved files that will not load as well—the same thing happens during the load.

    Any suggestions on how to recovery a Premiere Pro project like this? I am at a loss…this was a rough cut of a film that we have been working on for over a year. I have made back-ups of the original files and have set the programn to auto-save; I thought I was pretty-well covered. But I wasn’t expecting this…..

    Thanks for your help.

    1. Try importing the original project into a new project.
    Failing that;
    2. Locate your “auto save” versions…there are 5 of them..try the newest one, you may have lost only 20 minutes. They may be located inside “Premiere Auto Save ” folder inside your project folder.

    Thanks for your advice.

    The auto-save files did not load either. However, I decided to turn the computer off—walk away for a little bit (instead of throwing the computer out the window). About an hour later, I tried again. One of the auto-save files managed to load—although it took over 20 minutes. It’s all there–except for the rendered preview files.

    So I am relieved.

    Any advice on how to avoid this in the future. Should I auto-save on a different drive?

    Thanks for your help.

    I have seen project files that go bad or that take a long time to load…they were in excess of 50MB…no effects and only a few titles. I suspect editing style is the cause…folks slicing and dicing in the timeline instead of in the Source window.
