I have occasionally had problems with audio as well. It can be caused by 3rd party codecs etc. I have had FFDSHOW prevent audio from working correctly in AE previously. FFDSHOW is ok, I am just verifying that I have had problems with version in the past etc.

Some of these problems can be sorted out by going into your Control Panel\Sounds and Audio Devices\ Then go to the hardware tab and then scroll down to “audio codecs” double click it and then go to the proerties tab. You will see a list of all the audio codecs that are installed and available for use.

If there are any double ups (as in 2 different codecs for one format) then you need to make sure the codec you wish to use has a lower priority setting. If your ff_acm.acm (the ffdshow codec) is above your mp3/pcm or other codec, then it will take over the decoding duties.

If you have problems with audio output, it is almost always a 3rd party program/codec you have installed that is screwing with AE.

January 4, 2006 at 12:58 pm in reply to: BPM based markers: a script

    Filip…
    That’s Tops!

I know a couple of things about turntables and some other bpm related tools. I previously did the scrub-routine you mention when working with rythmic content and searching for the “downbeat” etc.

As far as your script goes:
It is a nice idea and quite elegant code as well, except for your spelling of the word “foruth”.

i was just having a quick look at it and the first thing I thought of was marking the downbeat of each set of 16 or 32. (This can obviously be achieved by applying your bpmMarkers.jsx script to a new layer and typing in 1/4 or 1/8 of the tempo.)

Is there any other different way to mark the downbeat similar to the empty URL method you have employed?

if there is a different marker, then you could do something like:
    *^^^.^^^.^^^.^^^*^^^.^^^.^^^.^^^ etc

At any rate, it is not a feature I can’t live without.

Overall though it is a good idea you had and you have executed it very well.

Congratulations on a such a fine effort.

ps.You might consider adding a version number to future releases.(eg. bpmMarkers01a.jsx)

  • Hi everyone,
    Hi Jeff,
I read this the other day, and just got to test it on the weekend.
It required some pretty heavy modification of the data I have in order to fit it into the AE prose. I can however confirm that this is a great method for importing values into AE if you are comfortable with Excel etc.

    Thanks for the excellent advice,

Once it is more finished, I might put a link up here to some test footage.

    kind regards,

November 18, 2005 at 11:02 pm in reply to: GridIron X-Factor

Yes i have run the Grid-Iron X-Factor software before.
It is fairly good, but the demo version is limited to 4 computers. The real version is quite pricey if I remember correctly.

I cannot remember if it speeds up rendering…
but it does speed up previews…
When you do a Ram Preview in AE and the little green bars begin to fill up from the left of your work area, the other computers begin to fill up from the other end and in the middle etc until the work area is rendered, then it plays normally.

It seems pretty useful, but 4 computers is a but limited.

November 18, 2005 at 6:28 am in reply to: motion tracking

There used to be an adobe tutorial explaining this.

For starters you should go to the point when the object comes back onto the screen and manually put the track point where you want it.
If the motion of the taxi is linear, you should almost have a good track.

The proper way or the 2nd step is:
In the couple of frames before the top of the taxi goes off screen, you need to move the “Search region” and “Feature region” (the 2 little boxes) but not the “Attach point”.

Basically just ALT+Click inside the larger box and outside the smaller box and drag it to another part of the taxi that remains on the screen.(Try a door handle maybe.)

Once the taxi roof returns to the frame you can ALT+Click and then drag back the the original feature.

You should have tracked a different part of the car but at the same time left the attach point where it originally was.

    I hope this makes sense.
