    Greetings Cowtippers,

I have a friend who wants to import some data from a datalog of his cars ecu into AE.
The data looks something like this:

    Rpm 1175 1175 1175 1175 1175 1176 1174 1173 1174 1172 1172 1170 1171 1170 1170 1171 1169 1170 1170 1171 1171 1173 1172 1174 1174 1174 1174 1175 1175 1175 1175 1177 1176 1175 1175

    or alternatively like this:

    Rpm
    1175
    1175
    1175
    1175
    1175
    1176
(I can modify it easily enough.)

I would like to use the values to drive a gauge on the screen.(I know how to do this, but getting the values into AE I do not.)

I think I read once in the past about a method someone had worked out using a combination of commands in an expression or script to import a line from a text file.

Has anybody got any experience with this or any other methods to import the data?

    Anyway thanks in advance,

    regards,

If you set-up your gauge,…animate it in ‘any’ fashion,….then ‘copy’ the keyframes,….paste them into a text editor you will see AE’s text keyframe data format,….you could then in a variety of ways ‘paste’ your data into the appropriate area and then ‘re-paste’ the whole thing back to your keyframes…………

AE’s data is very well layed out and easy to follow……….

    Good luck………..

    Hi everyone,
    Hi Jeff,
I read this the other day, and just got to test it on the weekend.
It required some pretty heavy modification of the data I have in order to fit it into the AE prose. I can however confirm that this is a great method for importing values into AE if you are comfortable with Excel etc.

    Thanks for the excellent advice,

Once it is more finished, I might put a link up here to some test footage.

    kind regards,
