    Hi Ramesh,

” jumping ship to Premiere from FCP ” – exactly what I started doing a month or so ago but as I’m retired and only making multi camcorder videos of local amateur shows, concerts etc I’m probably not going at the same pace as you! 🙂

I’m sure others could explain this more eloquently and scientifically than I but when you import media PPro goes through a “conforming” process (I recall from years ago that Premiere Elements does something similar) which I believe mainly concerns the audio. (Through observation I notice that the audio waveform appears in chunks at the same time as the message is displayed in the bottom right hand corner of the screen). This one-time process of creating the “peak file” seems to be pretty intense and often I’ve had the impression that that PPro has become unresponsive. With my typically 60-90 minute clips I just go and make myself a cup of tea and all is back to normal by the time it’s brewed.

Of course this might not be what’s happening to you – as I said, it’s just a wild guess.

Just a wild guess: the peak file isn’t being generated when this happens?

Hi Vincent – it’s just over a month since I replied to your post and told you what I was doing to fill up my two monitors. What I wanted to tell you (and anybody else that reads this) was that over these intervening weeks of working with PPro I’m finding less and less use for my second monitor! PPro seems to be designed in such a way that I’m really comfortable now with only one monitor whereas with FCP (and FCE before) I could hardly do anything without the two of them.

Just thought I’d mention it – I wonder if anybody else feels the same? It certainly makes portable editing easier carrying around just my MacBook Pro 🙂

Problem solved, panic’s over! I should simply create independent boxes within the single title thus giving myself total flexibility.

Thanks, lots of good stuff there. The MBP seems to be behaving today and I’m going to double the RAM on my iMac

I’m following the same route and what I’ve done is to click on the icon (drop down with lines next to it) on the top right hand side of the panel/frame I’m interested in moving across and that’s giving me all the flexibility I’ve been needing. Is this what you wanted to do?

  • I just noticed the 50% offer lasts until the end of September – panic is over.

  • This sounds great. Earlier I watched Walter Biscardi’s video’s and all in all I think I’ll take advantage of the 50% discount over at Adobe while it’s there. Cheers, Brian.

  • Hi Mark,

I’m hardly a professional editor (retired IT person) in that the most complicated thing I do is use typically four AVCHD camcorders for shows, concerts etc, synchronize them all, spend some weeks editing (inevitably colour correcting along the way), burn maybe 30+DVDs and sell them back to the cast/choristers/whatever at unbeatable prices.

I used Premiere Elements until a few years ago, got fed up with all the crashes, switched from PCs to an iMac with FCE, liked that, bought FCP in January but carried on hacking and whacking my long clips in the timeline because I was used to it. I never quite found the time to master ‘Multicam’ so that not being present in FCPX for me is not an issue. Anyway, from all I’ve read and listened to I think I should at least investigate alternatives.

Please excuse the long winded intro but I think I may be back with the occasional question from time to time. For now: one thing I really liked about FCE/FCP is Paste Attributes? Is that there, sort of, in PP?

Many thanks for your post and video – very helpful and comforting to learn of your thoughts and experiences.

    Brian.
