Dual monitor setup with iMac
Posted by Vincent Varga on August 13, 2011 at 2:17 amHello,
I just purchased the production premium suite and I’m trying to use premiere with two monitors. I’m coming from FCP7, where I had my browser window on my secondary display, and the preview, canvas and timeline on my main display. For some reason I can’t figure out how to do this.
Thanks
Vince

August 14, 2011 at 8:17 pmI’m following the same route and what I’ve done is to click on the icon (drop down with lines next to it) on the top right hand side of the panel/frame I’m interested in moving across and that’s giving me all the flexibility I’ve been needing. Is this what you wanted to do?

Thanks, yes this is what I was looking for. Not as visually appealing as my FCP7 arangement but it works.

August 15, 2011 at 10:00 pmYou can also drag the lower right corner of the interface and drag it across. Reset the panels by clicking and dragging. Worked for me.

August 18, 2011 at 5:09 pmIf you click on the little drop down icon in the upper right corner of each frame, you can undock and move that frame. Once you have it set just add a new window layout preset.

September 18, 2011 at 5:22 pmHi Vincent – it’s just over a month since I replied to your post and told you what I was doing to fill up my two monitors. What I wanted to tell you (and anybody else that reads this) was that over these intervening weeks of working with PPro I’m finding less and less use for my second monitor! PPro seems to be designed in such a way that I’m really comfortable now with only one monitor whereas with FCP (and FCE before) I could hardly do anything without the two of them.
Just thought I’d mention it – I wonder if anybody else feels the same? It certainly makes portable editing easier carrying around just my MacBook Pro 🙂

September 18, 2011 at 8:17 pmHey Brian,
Thanks again for the help, sorry I didn’t respond earlier.
I still find that I need two monitors, I personally like having nearly ever control window open instead of tabbed or disabled. Also for colour grading I find two monitors absolutley crucial so that one is full screen dedicated play back. But I do see how PPro is more user friendly with one display compared the FCP.
Thanks Again
Vince
