You can capture through firewire directly to ProRes. I would highly recommend this when shooting HDV.

It all depends on your budget. The best all around lens (in my opinion) is the Canon 24-70 2.8mm L series lens. If you are on a tight budget, pick up a couple of EF prime lenses. The 50mm 1.8 is only 100 bucks, but it’s incredibly sharp!

Check out Keylight in After Effects. It’s great.

I have had GREAT success shooting on a green screen with my 7D and pulling the key in after effects with keylight. One suggestion…if there is a lot of action, shoot 720p at 60fps.

Highlight the audio/video clips on your timeline that should go together and click apple+L to link them.

Go to your deck press menu>i link set>HDV to DV conv>off

I would export the audio into Soundtrack Pro and add a Limiter filter. It’s a little more work, but you get much better results than you do in Final Cut.
