  • Video and Audio are not linking

Posted by Steven Fischer on March 16, 2010 at 7:42 pm

Something strange is happening to the footage on my FCP 6.0.6 timeline. All of the existing footage on the timeline indicates it is linked (the file name on the clips are underlined) but when I go to move the video and audio clip, they separate. This is also true of new clips I bring in.

Even when I unlink and link again, the video separates from the audio when moved along the timeline.

Has anyone experienced this before? Is it a setting I’m not seeing?

    Thanks!
    Steven

“Even when I unlink and link again, the video separates from the audio when moved along the timeline.”

Does that mean you linked and unlinked the actual clips (command-L) or turned Linked Selection on and off (shift-L or the button next to Snapping on the timeline)?

You have Linked Selection switched off. Shift-L or the chain button in the timeline.

    All the best,

Highlight the audio/video clips on your timeline that should go together and click apple+L to link them.
