Well Apple shouldn’t have released this turd until it had the same functionality as the previous version with the ability to at least convert old projects to the new version and the ability to keep both versions open if necessary during this “transition”.
I use a 5D and an AVCHD video camera to record recipe videos for our agency and I am switching to Premiere that supports both formats natively. I bought FCPX yesterday on the hopes it would speed things up, but actually FCPX renders everything to Pro Res anyway, just its happening in the background and it slows your Mac down in the process. There is not much good to say about this release which is why I requested a refund from Apple. It is not for professional use.
Learn Avid and Premiere, FCP will be out of professional eye within months unless you want to edit for $12/hr. That’s who will be hiring you if all you know is Final Cut X
Yeah for multiple stations in a post house, maybe you would want to do that. I would suggest not upgrading based on many peoples experience with this crippled version of Final Cut. I have already requested a refund.
I don’t think you need to worry about network or anything like that with this new version. Its just download and go. From what I understand about the App Store, if you log into a new computer with the Apple ID you purchased it with you can download it to that computer if it doesn’t currently exist on that system, but why waste time. Download it once and back it up to an external or DVD and copy it to whatever machine you need to. That’s what I have done already and it works.
I am currently using my copy on another Mac Pro I don’t own, copied to my external drive. I don’t think there is any serialization other than the honor system.
That right there should tell you this is not a TRUE Pro software.
your RAID will be too slow for 1080p and right on the bleeding edge for 720p but no problems for any SD images. You need a minimum of 4 drives for HD so get an external solution with a really good controller card. check out https://www.caldigit.com HD Element or https://www.g-technology.com G-Speed eS.
