you can just make the Lathes editable (C key) and use copies of the objects to cut holes from the other. If you set the subdivisions of the lathes to be the same amount the points will align and make things cleaner later.
For the best results you really want to cut the inner wall with the inner and the outer wall with the outer if you know what I mean as they will connect properly that way.

Kind of like this excepting I could have cleaned it better.

maybe increase the subdivisions of the Lathe particularly the horizontal one *but* the real fix is to reduce the angle in the phong tags (particularly on the Lathes) – it’s really a shadow problem, I think. None of this is going to make the shadows where the two pipes join perfect as it should really be one object.

This shows one way to do it. Make the extrude editable and use Sketch Style tags on the caps to get them to render differently. There are more ways, Sketch and Toon is quite flexible.

  • since the top image is the cel render black-on-black so to speak, I’m not sure if the extrude is working well. Does the logo look right without the cel rendering?
If not, the spline needs work first. If it’s ok but you are wishing for more control of where the lines go you might be looking at needing to use Sketch and Toon.

What look are you trying for?

what happens if you open a new window and without importing anything go straight to Structure/Create Polygon? Still grayed out?

  • in the Extrude Object/Caps tab change type to be Quadrangles

I can’t get it to grey out no matter what mode I’m in… what version are you working with?

https://www.c4dcafe.com/ipb/index.php?s=&showtopic=32970&view=findpost&p=273021 describes one way, there are probably more. You would just have to set up your hierarchy in the right fashion to get the right parts to be children of the bones. And by implication make the rig first then attach the parts later (not necessary it just seems simpler to me)

if you are using a Sketch Material add a Sketch Render Tag to objects to control what effects show or you can not use a sketch material and make materials that have Sketch effects in the channels – a different way to work but it’s specific to that shader only.
