    that looks (at least the part we can see in the still) like one (or maybe two) sphere(s) that either use sculpting or displacement (no point in using bump excepting for details) to make the canal/river. Possibly the lakes are the same, done by hand, or maybe it’s part spherical Landscape and part sculpt/displacement map.

    that little tiny world looks identical to a Landscape object set to Spherical and the Sea Level set to something non-zero

    I broke the avi into a sequence of PNGs (which it appeared to be in the material) which took took it from 5.96 GB for the AVI to 15 MB for the 749 images (just a note for the future).
    The file is made of 23 planes which need to be transparent for the effect to work but the Ray Depth of the project is set to 6. It’s usually set to 15 (in R20 anyway) so there are not a lot useless depth calculations going on when they are not needed but you need them. Ray Depth needs to be more than 23, 24 works but would have to go higher if you add more transparent layer that are all going to lie over each other in the shot.

    very interesting results, the only thing that I wonder with those numbers is do you have any plugins that are only working in R20 because you have the Insydium bridge installed?

    my experience is plugins slow any version down a lot, and the ones that go talk to the ‘mother ship’ for confirmation of license are the worst. I’m seeing 9 seconds for R19 (though the first launch was closer to 20 – after that is was consistent at 9) and 28 seconds for R20 (first launch was 35 seconds then 28 after). Plugins are the same for both excepting R20 has xparticles and cycles from insydium both of which have to go online and check licenses. Try pulling all plugins from both and see what you get.

  • 15, falloff in a deformer arrives in R16 I think. Before that you’d have to use vertex maps etc. I don’t have access to anything older than 19 at home (moved to PC) so I had to search and found this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4sRdLx4EiQc which leads me to think R16 is the spot and this https://forums.cgsociety.org/t/adding-falloff-to-the-bend-deformer/1550157/2 which has a bit of discussion on how to get falloff in a deformer.

    19 and 20 are behaving as expected here, coordinate manager just reports position not delta then return to 0.

  • what version of C4D? You should be able to control the center by using a falloff (a spherical falloff likely), easier in R20 but possible with the Falloff before.

    there’s nothing wrong with it as is, it’s what you need to do for that shape if you are putting it in SubD and you want that result. Looks like it’s all quads, no tri’s or ngons (not that they are always bad). That sort of result could be achieved by beveling with the Bevel tool or deformer excepting the roundness of the holes in the ‘prongs’ would be some work to duplicate.
