  • in terms of viewport speed you also don’t need any more than two or three rows of carpet pile for that low shot in the example – more rows like in Adam’s example if the camera shot moves upward though…

  • Window/Customization/Customize Commands – in the Name Filter enter Toggle Active View (or in the Shortcut Filter click the middle mouse button) – if you select the ‘Toggle Active View’ you will see it has two shortcuts by default MMB and PgUp you can delete MMB and go with the remaining Page Up key or add anything you want

  • ah yes, layers, forgetting the obvious…

  • don’t know then, maybe Coffee or Python (but I don’t know how or if it’s possible)

  • add an Interaction tag and check ‘Disable Viewport Selection’

  • try Boole set to A Intersect B with a skinny cube (as thick as the slice you want). Animate that moving through your other object. Then do it again (separate Booles) for the other objects.

that’s not it then, usually no trouble with graphics on a Mac and the machine I was testing with has an ancient 2600 in it so the 5770 is lots (it does have 14 GB of memory though, how much memory in yours?). It has to be something else, maybe a plugin you have installed (though those usually cause crashes rather than graphics errors). Perhaps Support will know…

turning on HNurbs increases the poly count by 4 probably maybe it’s a graphics card thing. What card, what OS, what drivers?

you can copy the Texture of the luminance (left -click on the triangle to the right of Texture in the Luminance channel) and choose Copy Channel. That copies everything in that slot whether it’s just SS or SS in layers or whatever. It does not copy the rest of the settings outside the Texture slot so if the luminance color is not white or you changed the Mix Mode/Mix Strength you’d have to do those by hand (or copy them).
Then to paste go to the Luminance in the target material and click on the Texture triangle and Paste Channel.
