Michael, thank you for your response. I agree perhaps that I should pay someone to do this. The film I produced is streaming in July and even though 5.1 was an option I feel it to be a more advantageous for the platforms. As for myself I gave been a cinematographer / editor for over 30 years in the film industry to include mixing my on audio in post. However 5.1 surround is new to me in regards to post and even though I know the theory I know how things can fall short when you are not familiar with the process. So I’m going to be looking for someone who can do this for me. I will just export my 23 track and provide someone with the stems.

Richard I just stumbled upon the cause. All the clips with Noise Reduction. If I take off noise reduction the frames go back to normal. I even took a perfect clip with no problems and applied noise reduction and it instantly became cropped. Possible lack of vram maybe. I have 6GB. I did start getting warnings last week about low memory swap.

Well i figured out the problem myself. Upgrading to 17.4 was the problem. Nothing but bugs. Went back to 17 and all is perfect.

David you may be on the right track. 99 percent of the footage is Red footage but I have a few clips from a drone at 24 frames per second as oppose to 23.976. The total running time is 1 hour and 40 minutes for this feature.

UPDATE: I also found a few clips where we shot on video at 29.97 for an effect.

Im exporting out of Resolve 16 using the Pro Tools setting. Im sizing the video export to 1080 low resolution as it is for reference anyway. Then I’m adding about 240 handles per sound editor. They can open the project with no problem but the audio starts out in sync and drifts. By the end of the movie its off at least 3 seconds.

David, thank you for reaching out. I keep the cache deleted as Im not using cache option. Im using Resolve 16. My RAW setting is full resolution if that is what your asking. UPDATE: It seems I found a work around. If I replace the clip(S) with the original its fine. That just doesn’t make sense. Is the clip in the time line not pointing back to the original in the first place. Anyway it works when I replace the clip with the original raw file. Any ideas why it would do this?

  • Thank you guys for the info. As indicated by David, once I spoke to the station (CBS affiliate) They told me to edit as I normally would and they would convert on their end before air. The only thing i did on my end was set my timeline to 1080 (final broadcast size) although I shot in 4K, so as to reframe may footage so it would not be letterboxed on their end.
