Thanks Walter. I’m running a USB mixing board and video playback through iMac only. I will try using 1/2 rez. doesn’t seem right though huh? getting a few crashes.. have all the latest updates. NOT using yosemite. I get generally 3 recovery projects per edit. 🙁 Running fairly well today though..

  • Thanks. I haven’t taken it into Apple yet. I’ve had some extensive talks with Adobe but they aren’t really owning it. very friendly and nice but no real solutions unfortunately.

  • I’ve been running 10.9.4 with a clean install since it came out and things are quite buggy. I’m forced to use software rendering and not OpenGL. My 2013 quadcore iMac blows these new 12 core macpros away when it comes to Adobe CC… unfortunately.

  • Well we have 2 new 12 cores and 4 8 cores and the issue seems to be related to the AMD video cards. The only way I’ve found to have some sort of stable performance is to switch from openCL to software rendering. this is a bummer because obviously it’s like owning a BMW S3 and only driving it at 40 miles per hour.

  • Yeah.. it thought the July CC update was fixing things. but now I’m back to frequent crashes and really sputtery playback and performance even at 1/4 rez view. This 12core Mac pro 2014.. we have several… just dogs out on anything adobe. Seems to be getting worse. My 2013 quad core iMac smokes these machines in regard to adobe. not sure what the answer is. I’ve been back and forth several times with Adobe. Ive got everything on software mode.. but it seems like with 6GB of video ram.. I should be accessing this machine to its mac capacity. After Effects renders take several minutes to even begin. It’s really frustrating… well I’m on vacation next week.. so I will fogeddabouwdit for a while.. 🙂

Just wanted to give an update. First of all Adobe really held my hand through this process and I want to say thanks to you guys. After updating to last weeks 10.9.4 release and installing CC 2014. I have to say things are running great so far.

On a side note… Why would apple create a beast of a machine designed specifically for FCPX, ( heard it runs solid on the new macros) and still hold to the prosumer feel of FCPX? This jogs my brain. Simple things like you don’t have freedom over panel layout. There’s one option to have viewers play on a dual screen, but everything else is confined to it’s inflexible layout. I always felt apple had the best stock fx and I think this is the case with FCPX as well, but as I told another colleague, by training up and comings on FCPX is to rob them of the opportunity of learning the fundamentals of video editing. Knowledge of codecs, video architecture, it all seems bi-passed by a consumer friendly “garage band-ish” over simplification of the craft.

Thanks so much Peter for your feedback. Very helpful. Yes I think I’m going to hold tight and hope that the folks responding from Adobe can help with some of these issues, but as you said, not sure what they can do presently with the new Mac pros. We are using a a few thunderbolt I/o devices . I’ll check into that. The folks at Adobe have been reaching out and the thing I keep hearing from everyone is to switch from gpu to CPU settivngs within PPro and media encoder. I’ve tried this within 10.9.3 without success but maybe now having reverted to 10.9.2 it will help. Although I hate doing that in principle with all the horsepower the Mac pros have. I’m going to get on the phone with these guys today aGain and see what we can come up with. Too bad the new Mac pros didn’t come with Cuda capability. Maybe difference video cards besides the AMDs would go a long way.
