I’m never seen what you describe however when you render you render the Active Camera. I’ve just done a test on my system and it behaves normally. There’s something else going on with your file.

    Precomp? Collapsed transformations?

Try resetting your prefs to default holding down all modifier keys when you launch After Effects.

(Ctrl+Alt+Shift on the PC, Command + Option + Shift on the Mac.)

When you use a gradient you animate the threshold to control shatter, you are doing that aren’t you?

If I have interpreted your post correctly, your project file is corrupted and gives you an error when you try to open it.

Instead of opening it, try to import it into a new project file. This sometimes works.

Yours looks great. I used CC Sphere.

Also use parenting to keep layers linked. IF the curtains should be on a wall, parent them to the wall layer.

    Steve;

I threw this together in 3 minutes to give you the general idea. It still needs some tweaking to make it look right. The line on the right appears too soon…

Steve’s suggestions are bang on though there may be another option if you don’t have 3D Stroke.

It requires a bit of fiddling but you can animate lines in a 2D Comp precomp the line animation and then apply CC Sphere and adjust the radius appropriately.

The fiddly bit is getting the location correct. If you’re using 3D cameras then you may need an expression to keep the CC Sphere layer orienting to the camera.

I not sure that I have more to contribute than what’s already been said. I work on a dual quad core Mac with 16 GB of RAM and often turn MP off. For some projects its a real boon for other not so much.
Any performance boost depends on the nature of the work and effects being applied. Some effects stop MP in its tracks (lens blur) others play well with it.

I use Lloyd Alvarez’s great script Throttle to turn MP on and off when needed. https://aescripts.com/throttle-12/

I’ve also got Nucleo Pro which can really help with rendering by utilizing all cores.

Still depending on the work you do YMMV.

A simple method: Draw the path for the graph on a solid.

Apply Write On. Paste the Mask Path (not the mask) to the Brush Position.

    Animate Color using hold keyframes.
