October 19, 2015 at 9:49 pm in reply to: Import DSLR Footage into FCP X as HD1080i 24 FPSDon’t have it optimize on import and they’ll come in as h264 or whatever format they were originally (possibly avchd). There is no such thing as 24i so you can’t make them 1080i 24FPS. If they were shot 24p then just drop them in an interlaced sequence to have interlaced pull down added. But they’ll still look progressive. If you really wanted to jump through hoops you can use optical flow and some exporting importing to create the missing fields out of thin air. But you don’t want to do this. https://www.fcp.co/final-cut-pro/tutorials/1731-creating-interlaced-video-from-progressive-footage-in-final-cut-pro-x

It’s pushing 4 years oleander according to geek bench, it’s still the 7th fastest non-Xeon Mac. 20th overall. So taking into acct that personally my needs fit the i7 more than the Xeon, it certainly is hard to upgrade to a 2015 to move up a couple notches. The slight performance gain would only apply during 10
% of my work, and even then only give a marginal gain. 4gig GPU is about the biggest draw. -
What’s wrong with Premiere’s morph cut? The one in Resolve has been saving my butt lately. Really works nicely. And you can even do a morph cut in FCP X manually with a few edits and optical flow.

Funny thing is if you’re dealing with big pro res, or uncompressed high data flow files the nMP would probably be where it’s at. But editing native h264 camera formats seem to be better on the top end iMac because of the accelerated h264 support. Creates h264 files fast too. Some sort of headless iMac with i7s and expand ability would be a pretty nice sweet spot.
Recently Inwas having lags and beach balls. Biggest cause of beach balls was letting my drives go to sleep when not in use. Seems sometimes I’ll start a trim and FCPX decides it wants to access all the drives for no reason. Or sometimes time machine kicks in.
But other lags seem to be having any sort of motion generator in the timeline, even rendered. When I have those I have to restart X every half hour sometimes.

There really hasn’t been much bet a has well minor speed bump on the i7 tech since 2011. Retina is nice, and I may have to go 2015 for the 4gig GPU. But it’s just not compelling enough. The 2012 is still worth almost $2k maxed out.

No. It’s a 27″ i7, 3.4ghz with 2gig 680mx, 32gigs RAM and fusion drive. The 2011 had i7 as well. In fact the current machines aren’t really that much better. You can get a 4hgz with retina. But the big increase is the 4gig AMD gfx card.
The h264 is possible because the i7 has h264 acceleration.

Try right clicking on the generator in FCP X and choosing “Open in Motion.” Are the assets showing as missing there? If so, relink them. I’m guessing somehow the generator was using an absolute file path instead of a relative one. Like if you placed the necessary items in the folder instead of letting Motion move them on a save.

Is it the same version of FCP X? Perhaps the generator was created with the newer version of Motion? While X doesn’t need Motion to utilize the generator, it has Motion engine built in and perhaps if that’s based on an older version than you have at home it might give you trouble.
