It’s only free if you’re using it for a NATIONAL tv broadcast or a feature film. To quote…

I used to think it was free too since it came with .mac and nowhere was a license listed. No links their website or freeplay company either. I just thought apple had bought some sort of fledgling music library and made it free. NOPE. They’re pretty much just like all the others unless you’re using it for big time broadcasts or films. Otherwise, there’s fees involved if you’re using for corporate, etc.

June 2007 is most likely when you’ll see the new machines. June 2006 is not slated for the towers, but most likely powerbooks. We can hope, but that might just be an announcement, with another announcement about towers in the fall or even Jan 2007, for shipment a couple months later at limited volume.
Here’s for being pessimistic and always pleasantly surprised.

Well it kinda works. Pasting goes to the same tracks unless you change the auto selects. But you could of course make your marks in the timeline, then move the sequence to the viewer and do more advanced patching. It’s a stretch. But for me this kinda thing is on the super low end of features in any nle that is neccessary. When I learned it on Avid I was like… what the hell is this for? But when I learned that Avid is pretty anti-copy and paste, I discovered they had to invent all this bizzare functionality and workarounds to do simple things like copy and paste.
I have a theory about Avid editing. It takes so many dang clicks and button presses to do a basic function (like picking up a clip and moving it for example) that people think Avid editors are so “fast.” It all seems so cool, all those presses and marking and lifting and trimming, etc. It just doesn’t wow the client as much when I use the mouse to click and move. 🙂

Because they are postscript, and not TrueType. FCP uses truetype fonts.

I know what you’re describing and unfortunately there isn’t an exact duplicate of that funciton in FCP. On avid I always thought that was a neat function but hardly ever had a need for it. I understand the possible need for it. With possibly juggling tracks or only editing in specific tracks et al, it’s a nice feature.
FCP does allow multiple sequences open at once which in the end is probably a much more powerful feature overall, but it doesn’t replace what you’re looking for. But you can mark in/out in a seqeunce, choose option+a to select from the chosen autoselect tracks within that region, and then paste or insert paste into the other timeline. The result is 99% the same. Autoselect tracks on the other timeline will decide where your paste goes.

Oh, sorry I didn’t think about the self contained audio. But I guess my point is still the same. Mpeg2 is pretty much for DVD production, no? I just don’t know. I’ve never seen an mpeg2 file ever used for any other purpose.
Thanks for the complimenets on the reel. I encoded those clips with Cleaner 6, using sorensen 3 codec, 15fps, and about 500kb/sec data rate, mp3 audio encoding.
But the new h264 is better at even lower data rates, but your visitors have to have the latest QT.

Don’t you have to put your clip on V2, and turn off V1 so that FCP doesn’t comp in black?

Well he COULD transfer the license to you. And then HE would be the one breaking the law by using his upgraded copy which he upgraded using your license. Sounds messy.
I actually bought FCP 1.2 on Ebay originally. It was advertised as new, shrinkwrapped and in the box. The person selling it said it was actually a prize or something he had won, and had no use for. I registered it no problem and have upgraded that license all the way to version 5. My after effects also started out as an ebay purchase. Version 3 academic I think. I called Adobe and asked if I could upgrade version 3 academic to version 4 pro non-academic. They said sure. I did, and had no problems.
Looking back it wasn’t worth the couple hundred bucks for the risk and the hassle, but I was pretty poor in those days. 🙂

They do, and it’s called Compressor. It should be one of your export options. It’ll open Compressor and it has some export options for mpeg 2 that are fairly straightforward. The options are based on your show length and desired quality.
Since it’s mpeg2 you’re looking for I assume your client is going to author a DVD. If not, you may want to check with them about the specs they want. Frame rate, bit rate, file size, etc… Especially if it’s being designed to play on specific computer hardware like laptops for salesmen in the field or something like that.

I guess maybe I’m missing something but Curtis answered your question very simply, and I answered it in the DW forum. Brian also gave you a link to some code. Is that the code that you’re trying to use? You have yet to reply or respond to anyone’s suggestions and you keep starting new threads.
If you’re a beginner, there’s really no need to use any special java, or imageready. In your web application (or by hand if you know html well enough – I don’t) simply open up the examples people have given you and reverse engineer it. It’s the best way to learn. If you use DW or GoLive you should be able to open the pages in the app and see how the table was laid out to center the page.
