I’m pretty sure you can import a tga sequence as a clip. But if you want to do it by importing them all, just change your user prefs still duration to 1 frame and then import them. If they are all numbered correctly, 001, 002, etc. where they can be sorted and displayed in the bin the the correct order you should be able to just select them all and drag them to a sequence. I’d drag them to their own seueqnce and then use that sequence as a clip.

A second internal ATA drive is faster than an external FW400 drive. Editing from an external FW is just fine for DV of course, but from a secondary internal is slighly faster. Editing from the boot drive is not recommended of course.

Do you have the caps lock on?

Because the format does not exactly match the sequence format. Could be scale, frame rate, codec, etc.
For example if you put a 30fps qt in a 29.97 sequence you’ll have to render. Common rookie mistake. Just an example.

And I’m not exactly what he’s trying to accomplish, but the beauty of shift+n is also that it doesn’t just create a still of a clip, but whatever you’re seeing in the viewer. So if you have 20 layers of stills all over the screen, it will create a single frame that can replace all that.

Breathe…. Just export a self contained quicktime to your internal laptop hard drive. Plug the deck into the firewire port. Play back the quicktime off the lap top drive. It will work just fine.
Does your hard drive not have a firewire pass through port on it? It should. If it does, skip the above and plug in a deck/camera to record to miniDV.
Or burn a CD with the quicktime on it and give it to the dub house. They apparently have FCP, so they’ll be able to open a quicktime and output out of their fcp.
Since you’re only dealing with 30 seconds the options are limitless. You ftp them a file. At 5 minutes per gig DV goes a long way.

Well since he’s running a 2.16 ghz 20″ intel imac I would guess it’s the latter. Gotta upgrade to FCP 5.

That is interesting. It would appear to me that the extract filter is not working correctly. But maybe I don’t get it. Anyway, here’s the workaround…
Place your ani+ clip on track 2. Place a black slug on track 1. Place a white clip (create it using the matte generator) on track 3. Right click on the white clip and choose composite mode>travel matte alpha. Now you hae white using the matte of your ani+ clip to to key over the black, creating a matte. Render away.
