Maybe even simpler to make duplicate sequences. One you could make all the clips independent, then make them offline (but don’t delete from disk. Should work, no?

Yep. And unfortunately the copy / paste things changes with each version of FCP, as does some other features like ctrl+v.
Anyway, it used to be that if you copy’d and pasted that it made a new iteration, but if you option+dragged it kept the connection to the one in the browser. Very nice if you can keep up with it. In fact, it might have been the other way ’round. However, last time I checked they broke it and now option drag or copy and paste makes a new iteration. So be careful in future versions. You could end up making changes to what you think is a copy, but isn’t.

About the forgotten format or firewire part? Like I said I’m not sure about the firewire, but in Atlanta I’ve only ever seen DVCPro50 used one time, and it was an internal Bellsouth division. They had the cameras and decks. That was back in 1999. The decks certainly didn’t have firewire back then as standard, and there was only one DVCPro deck for the longest time that had firewire. Not many people seem to use either in my world. It’s either beta, digibeta or dvcam. And of course now days it’s all over the place witih the new DVCProHD, HDV, P2, etc. Speaking of new stuff, I saw a demo of XDCam yesterday and was pretty impressed. $30 for a 23Gig disc. How much is a 8gig P2 card? Yikes! Starting to think P2 is a big interim format. But enough OT stuff. 🙂

What are you going to output to if you use DVCPro50? Do you have a DVCPro50 deck? This is a fairly forgotten format these days. I’m not sure if it ever supported firewire.

DVCPro is Panasonic’s version of DVCam. DV and miniDV are sort of the generic. All three, DVCam, DVCPro, and DV are DV25, not DV50.
DVCPro50 is DV50. The 50 formats are similar to digibeta. A little more compresssion, but 4:2:2 instead of 4:1:1

I looked at Jeremy (Apple’s) document and it’s exactly what’s on the door. There’s no mathing risers or mathing sizes mentioned. Apple doesn’t follow that, and neither does the resellers.
Scott, glad you got it working. If it sees the ram, it’s working. But as far as I can tell, FCP can only access 1 gig of RAM. However, you still need say 500mb for system and overhead, and at least another 500mb to run other apps at the same time like mail, safari, livetype, motion, after effects, photoshop, whatever. I’ve got 3 gigs and it never even hiccups. Even while running parallels. For heavy rendering, I shut down all other apps.
Download the istat nano widget and you can get a decent quick look at what the ram is doing.

Yeah, right, and that’s why my mac came with 1 gig. Two 512s on one riser. The instructions are right there inside the machine. All the resellers sell it configured that way as well. And it works.

You had some bad RAM would be my guess. or you had them installed incorrectly as he did. Getting them to be all 512s would of course fix that problem accidentally. Kinda like deleting preferences.

That’s not true at all. They simply need to be installed in matched pairs. But NOT across risers like he’s doing. He’s got his matched pair of 1 gigs on separate risers. Seems logical enough, but no.
It should’ve come with 2 512s on the top, and 2 512s on the bottom. Following the clear instructions on the computer door, the 2 1 gigs that were purchased now go on the top riser.
