Yes you lose all your finder related folders and X puts it all in one folder. But you do not lose your keywords. They’re still right there in your project. You can have X create keywords based on import folders, but that doesn’t have anything to do with the keywords once they’re in X. For example if you changed a keyword, or added 3 more keywords to a file it doesn’t start creating folders on the hard drive.
Don’t forget to consolidate all the media after you’ve copied to a new library. Otherwise you’ll just have a bunch of aliases.

September 2, 2016 at 4:06 pm in reply to: adobe premiere user switching to FCPX – advice on features / where is?You mean retiming? Cmd R. Then drag the little bar above the clip, of click the little triangle to get more options. There’s also a dedicated retiming menu over to the right of the timeline. You can blade the timing bar, roll the timing edit, use easing handles to ramp speed, etc. it’s all there.
2- You mean slipping? Use the trim tool. T. And click in the middle of a clip and drag back and forth. Same as FCP 7 but with T instead of R. One caveat- in X connected clips will move as well because they’re connected at a specific point. Hold down tilde while you slip to override the connection.

Did you confirm that it actually is 50p? It very well might be 25p recorded at 50p. GoPros for example will do this if there’s not enough light to pull off a fast enough shutter for 50p.

Jeremy is right. You wouldn’t use optical flow. You use optical flow to create frames where there are none. You have have twice as many frames as you need for 30p playback, so simply play it back at half speed and bingo, perfect slow mo.

But you can’t go back and change them as a whole once they’re in the timeline, so it doesn’t really accomplish the goal either.

August 25, 2016 at 10:32 pm in reply to: Achieving Audio Consistency Between Several ClipsI would turn on the background noise removal, lightly. Then get the levels as close as possible. After that a little EQ. Within the clips themselves you can use a compressor to better level out the volume, but that doesn’t sound like the issue.

Copy and paste works great as well.

August 22, 2016 at 12:04 am in reply to: 6 months in with FCPX… my feature requests (FWIW)…It’s much more accurate and powerful. From the visual controls and plugs adopted from logic to the fact that you can edit down to the sample. The rubber banding / keyframing has been improved as well with range controls and multi-Keyframe selections and Keyframe copy paste. Not much to dislike. Improvements across the board.

The rectangles are simply nested within the group of the rectangle above it. So, while they’re rotating on their own, any rotation to the group they’re in is also applied. Hope that makes sense.
To think of it more simply, if you recognize that all objects in a group rotate when you rotate the group as a whole, then it’s just about thinking of what happens when they’re all individually rotating as well. Each square is roughly the same. Just a duplicate of the original group (I think I did some tweaking of their anime and color). It’s their placement vertically that creates the ladder look. Then their horizontally that dictates when they roll down. And each is nested within the group of the square above, so they take on not only their own swing out rotation, but also the cumulative effect of the rotation (swing) of the group they’re nested in. And that group they’re nested in is taking on it’s own rotation, plus the rotation of the group it’s nested in and so on.
