    hi,
Noob to motion, trying to find out how to make an object or group of objects to drop down and bounce back as if strung on a cord or a rope. would love a pointer to relevant behaviors or parameters to look for.

    thanks in advance

You want to try the Spring Behavior.

Apply it to your layer or group, and then create an attractor object (any shape will do and hide it once you’ve made it) to create the centre point of the spring action.

(Make sure not to put your dummy object in a group that you are also applying the spring behavior to – it needs to be in a group of its own in that case otherwise you’ll get some weird behavior.)

Now place the object that you want to bounce at the top of the screen and it will be dragged down by the spring action and it will bounce around the attractor object. Increase the Spring Tension parameter as required.

To get the spring action to slow down progressively, add a Drag behavior on top of the Spring behavior.

Let us know if that’s not exactly what you had in mind as there are several different ways to achieve this effect.

ok so applied the spring and the attractor object as specified (thanks! I learned something new 🙂 but did not get the desired effect. went through all the relevant behaviors i could think of but did not get closer to finding a solution to what i’m after. tried to use the throw and Stop Behavior but that also wasn’t that exactly, even though it was a bit closer

I’ll try being more specific – I have some rectangular shapes that need to reveal from under a logo. in the end they need to line up one on top of the other, evenly spaced and motionless. what i’m looking for is a way to sort of “unfurl” the rectangles so that they dangle down as if on an invisible rope. think like a rope ladder. so there should be some springyness to the motion and some pendulum-type action. but gravity should prevail at the end and the objects should be motionless when hanging there.

That’s a start. You’ll need to oscillate the Y up and down (and key frame, or ramp, the oscillate to zero) as well for a little bounce. That’d be one “rung”. Duplicate that group and place it in the same group, but slightly later in the timeline, and slightly below the other, and so on. Might have to fade each group in a little too. Should be a good start.

That’s amazing! I’ll be sure to dissect it and figure out how it’s done
. is it that easy to do that you just kicked out a version like that?

15-20 minutes. But I’d already thought about it when I wrote the post. I’ve also done the same sort of thing in AE years ago so I knew how it would react. This sort of thing is much cleaner with parenting. But there’s likely a better way to do it with linking behaviors and parameters, similar to parenting, but this is just super quick.

    Hello and good day Yohanan.

I have a template similar to what I think you are looking for just in case you did not want to create it from scratch: https://motion-master-templates.com/leaflet-theme-pack/

Please let me know what you think or if you have any questions. Have an amazing day!
