Its not a history. Its a forward and back browser exactly like a web browser forward and back navigation. If you open 4 projects, then navigate backward 3 projects, then open another project from the browser, you’ve just deleted the 3 projects from your forward navigation because you’ve just created a new forward navigation. You’ve caused a rift in the navigation time continuum and nothing will ever be the same again.

If clip 2 is full screen, you can also achieve what Noah suggests by putting clip 2 above clip 1 but below the text and simply dissolving clip 2 in.

True. But just turn it into a compound clip (option g) and you you can edit it just like any clip. Slice it up, retime it, etc.

Just select all your media in the browser, right click and choose to generate proxy media. Then you can swap between proxy and originals on the fly whenever you like.

I don’t know about fairy tales, but I know there’s no 2015 Mac Pro.

Your assertions are completely correct. It’s a ridiculous PIA and every NLE has some. That’s one of FCP X’s. If you’re only extending a couple layers, drag em. If, like me, you end up needing to extend 10 at a time, extend them all with a super long duration, then move the play head and slice them and delete. It is what it is.

Did you create a compound clip for the time and date? Sounds like you exported that from the browser.

Not with FCP X itself. You can round trip through Resolve but of course you’d lose most your effects and titles and such. There are some third party solutions for exporting sequences and clipping the media but they’re mostly for exporting to AE or Motion.

It’s only an issue if you’re trying to backup really long, optimized files. No need to back up the optimized, and camera media is often of the highly compressed h264 nature, so it’s not such a bad thing. But if you’re taking in multiple hours long camera shot it will start to get beefy. But space if cheap.

Highlight the clip and turn off channels and all the adjustments you need in the inspector. I’m not sure how to cure phase. Might be a reverse phase audio filter?

Since the files sound great before import to FCP I’m guessing it’s a phase cancellation issue. They’re probably being tagged as dual mono and the channels are being mixed in FCP revealing the phase issue.

Patricia, if you turn off all the channels but one in the inspector, does the audio sound better?
