Definitely worth it. It’s the only real curve solution available in FCP X. It’s a little awkward with dual displays, it keeps snapping back to the main display. And it is a bit buggy, crashes FCP X occasionally. But, I finally feel like I have control over the image.

Does anyone know a shortcut that would let you add a second Color Correction effect? Command-6 works for one, but then you have to manually drag a new one on top of the clip from the effect browser to add a second instance. I wish it still had that + button.

Combined with 3D camera tracking, 3D titles would really be something.

I would have preferred to have it already in the effects queue but disabled. Hitting Command-6 is no big deal though. I’ll just have to learn to do it.
I do wish they had added a curves tab in the Color Board, then it would be more comparable with Lumetri.

Yes it would be handy. You should be able to open a title or effect in Motion from the timeline. I find I add tons of parameters to my Motion templates, so I can fully customize them within FCP X. But if I could easily open them in Motion I wouldn’t have to. And I’d probably do a lot more customization. Not to mention, you start getting a lot of Motion templates sitting around that you can’t really eliminate.

I used to use Color Finesse 3 for virtually all my edits in FCP 7. And missed it greatly once I moved to FCP X. Of course, it was never bug-free as a FCP plug-in.
I passed on Nattress Curves, as it’s really NOT a curves plug-in. More of a highlight, mid, shadows adjustment. I also find the “Curves” section of Colorista not flexible enough.
I think the closest you’ll get right now is Color Finale. It is quite good, if a little bit buggy at the moment. It doesn’t have color pickers, which would be nice. I combine it with Dashwood’s White Balance plug-in for FXFactory which I find is the best at correcting white balance with Kelvin adjustments.

The customized templates (which is what you have) are stored in User:Movies:Motion Templates then in this case Titles.
Yes you can rename to your hearts content. I have a synchronization script that keeps all the template folders of our workstations the same. Of course, that means you have to be careful about overwriting, but since i’m the only one that modifies templates, it’s not that big of a deal.
Another tip that took me a long time to figure out. If you change title styles, if you drag the new template on top of the old one in the timeline it will retain your text edits. Great for lower-thirds.

Northern Virginia means Washington, DC. I can assure you it’s not any cheaper than Los Angeles. According to the cost of living calculator a $40K salary in DC = a $38K salary in L.A.

I don’t think backups always require relinking”I thought for externally stored media it always required relinking. At least I’m sure it used to be like that. Backups do not save the “alias” files that are stored in the library when using external media. Am I wrong about this?
I’m just not sure what the bigger problem could be. This was a fairly large library – over 2,000 clips. Is it possible the backup works well for smaller libraries, but at some point fails with larger ones?
