New FCPX 10.2
Posted by Frank Valtellina on April 13, 2015 at 7:33 pmAmazing 3D control for text. It would be useful to have the same 3D control for picture transformation 😉

April 13, 2015 at 9:41 pmYeah that would have been good. I was hoping for more in 10.2 but it seems much snappier to use and that’s never a and thing.

April 14, 2015 at 6:51 amNot to mention that making the colour board an effect actually makes it 100x more useful.
I’ve been editing a project with footage from a two day conference and the generation of audio waveforms is definitely much faster. Yesterday with projects of 2hrs+ I could go grab coffee while FCPX sorted the audio waveforms out. Today, I only make it as far as the coffee machine.

April 14, 2015 at 10:13 amIf you ctrl click the effect you want to remove from within the Effect Browser it will give you the option to reveal in finder. The self created color effects are found in Library_Application Support_Pro Apps_Effect Presets.
Ctrl Click again gives you the option to trash the effect.

April 14, 2015 at 10:20 amMany thanks for that Mark. Bit of ‘Doh!’ moment. I should have thought of that.
Am I alone in finding this update rather exciting? I’m probably a bit sad I know.

April 14, 2015 at 11:21 amI find that everything seems to work a bit better – hard to quantify though.
I don’t get the 3D titles – It all seems a bit old fashioned to me but it could lead to the control of more 3D objects from within FCPX in the future.
I really like the Masks that have been introduced in 10.2 ( sorry to Slice X ) and color now being an effect is huge for me as is the ability to save a combination of effects together as a new effect. As an example I’ve just created an effect that contains a Color Finale set up that includes a LUT, together with a sharpen filter and a colormask created from from Apple Color. this is now available to me with whatever library I open which could save a lot of time.
I also really like being able to display more than one video scope at a time – at the moment I have the vectascope and Luma both up.
So yes I’m pleased with this update whilst at the same time being a bit disappointed that there have been no improvements to the audio functionality or the long awaited Motion roundtrip.

April 14, 2015 at 7:04 pmCombined with 3D camera tracking, 3D titles would really be something.
