I use a sony wireless hand held for some interviews. I did some interviews in a noisy dance club environment. I was surprised how well it block out the ambient noise and the subject’s voice was very clear. Quick and easy to just hold up the mic.

Well, it’s already happened. They are just not called DSLR’s. Sony & Panasonic has provided all of your requests in these amazing Supper 35mm cameras. Film like cameras for very little cost.

They are the Sony FS 100 and the Panasonic AF 100

Do you have anyone in the family who is a student or teacher? They have a great education discount program.

Otherwise, I’d go with the Elements Photoshop/Premier bundle for $100.

It’s about the video and story line. You can use basic editing programs and still produce an incredible production. I know an editor who uses a program like Prem. Elements and puts out amazing video / films.

Use a tripod on your land based interviews. These cameras don’t do well with any shakes. They give you the dreaded Jello Effect.

Always shoot in the best quality unless you are shooting a spec project for someone that specifically requests you to shoot in SD. Your final project, even if it’s on a standard DVD will look much better. That’s why your favorite movie still looks so great on DVD. It was shoot in such detail, that down converting gives you a better final image. You can always down convert, but upconverting will never look good.

With CS4 or CS5, and a quad core machine with at least 4 Gig of RAM and a decent video card, you should be able to edit HD just fine. It’s the same editing as SD.

CS5 and now 5.5 has some nice presets for Vimeo and YouTube that gives you a quick drop down menu, export, and your done. CS5 is faster at transcoding.

I recently was asked by a bride and groom to film them going table to table. I think they thought I was a photographer, as I rarely use that footage. I may shoot a few creative shots at that time, but mostly reaction shots, hugs, laughter, etc.

Once I even pointed a camera without actually filming to please them. They never asked me…where’s the footage of us going around the table?

I had this same issue and spent a year trying to find answers. Nobody, including Adobe were any help, until I asked a local the same question.

If you move any titles, or relocate them in the menu, you have to go to your layers and highlight everything in that menu item list before moving it around. Otherwise, you will move your title, but the highlight will be in the previous location, thus leaving you with no highlight.

EX: If you have a menu item titled “PLAY” You have submenu items for the highlights, underline, etc. Probably 4 layers in total. Open the folder for the “PLAY” button in the layers menu. Click on the first layer, hold shift, & click on the last layer for the PLAY menu button. Then select your move tool and move your PLAY menu item to the location of your choice.

Thanks for responding. I understand how to set up for bluray or dvd. The problem is when I try to “SAVE AS” it just locks up and I can’t do anything else. I have to force quit.

I am on a Mac with CS4. I have CS5 on my PC, but I edit on the Mac in Final Cut.

I just set up and made a bluray image first. Then I had to delete items in the menu and rebuild a DVD menu before making a DVD image. Unfortunately, if I need to go back and tweak anything in BluRay, I would have to rebuild those added menus and timelines that were previously deleted.

Sony’s EX1 website has links to upgrading. But, if you are not technologically savvy, you can actually damage your camera and it’ll cost thousands to fix. You have to upgrade one firmware at a time. You cannot jump to the latest without upgrading previous versions.

I would recommend spending the few hundred dollars that Sony or other certified repair shop will charge you to do the upgrade. They will charge you a flat rate and do the upgrade.
