If you are working outside the workday, then it’s non of his business. But, it could be conceived as a conflict of interest.
Then again, you need to ask for a raise, because at $9 per hour, what does he expect. How loyal could anybody be working for minimum wage. If he wants dedication, then pay up.
I’d ask for a raise, at least double or triple that rate.

Do you have a protective lens mounted on your camera? If so, take it off and clean.
Otherwise, if it’s internal, you’ll need to send it into sony for repair.

Do you have to have an EX-1 or can you use the newer EX-1R?

I film live concerts with the EX-1. If I have any control, I always try to tell the lighting person to eliminate RED. It makes them look sunburnt. I’ve noticed the blue being saturated on people, but not as bad looking as RED. I always request some amber / yellow / soft blue / white if possible and it give me the best images in a concert setting

I haven’t had this issue, so I’m not sure on the fix. I would try to delete the plugin and reinstall it if you can’t find a fix.

It depends what your needs are going to be. Of course a laptop has the portability. But for a main editing system, why don’t you go with the Mac Pro tower. It’s a great system and you can put 4 drives at 2 terabytes each. Better bang for the buck.
I wouldn’t waste your money or time on Final Cut X. Read up on the many issues. Apple dropped the ball on this.
I still edit with Final Cut 6 and it works just fine. I also have Adobe Production suite 5.5. Eventually, I’ll probably be switching to Adobe full time since Apple has made it clear they do not care about the video market, not enough money to matter to them.
Adobe on the other hand have taken advantage of this opportunity and produced an amazing product that has great workflow and fast transcoding times.

If it’s a long interview, it may have a tendency to drift as it goes down the timeline. I haven’t used Plural Eyes, but I’ve heard it’s not always locking in the footage correctly.
I use log and transfer to encode my footage and synch on the timeline.

Sapphire Edge by GenArts has some cool settings for getting this kind of effect. But, there are many ways to achieve the same effect. Just play with some test shots to find your way.

I’m a fan of canon. I like the look of their lenses.
When you compare any camera, you need to do a side by side shoot to truly have an accurate image comparison. Otherwise, someone may have used proper lighting with one camera and bad settings on the other.
You’ll be fine with both cameras, but as said earlier, if you already had canon lenses, you may be better off sticking with a canon camera.
Personally, if I had the budget, I wouldn’t waste any money on another DSLR. I would go with the Panasonic AF 100.
