I created a new simplified project as a sample;The first screen shot shows the project with about a 1 minute video
and associated audio in the second track. In the third track I’ve added
three, 5 second JPG’s. The first group I have left space between them.
The second group are butted, and the third group are cross faded.
The plan was to see if it made a difference in the multicam editing;
The scecond shot is after selecting Ctrl A, Multicam Track;
The third shot is after selecting Multicam Editing, but before editing;
When I start the video playing, the JPG’s will eventually appear in the project
preview window as Cam 2. I can manually select the JPG to be the active take,
but at the end of the JPG, the take automatically switches back to Cam 1.
This happens with all three test groups. I would expect this on the group where
the JPG’s have a blank space between them, but not on the joined groups.
It seems that whenever the Vegas SW sees a “fade handle” on the JPG in Cam 2,
it automatically defaults back to Cam 1. What I really want is to “play through”
all the butted or cross faded JPG’s before switching back to Cam 1.Hope this helps,

Don’t know how to do a screen capture and I don’t think it would show the problem anyway.
I set up a controlled test using video in track 1 (its’ audio in 2), video in track 3 (its’ audio in 4), and a string of JPG’s in track 5, and then enabled Multicam mode and Multicam editing.
The timeline view is now the new Multicam track with active video on track 1 and audio on track 2. In the preview monitor are the 3 video tracks. (I use the mouse to select the take I want in the preview monitor).
Here is an example of the problem; video is running fine and then selected a JPG in track 3 to become the active take; at the end of the preset time for the JPG, the active take bounces back to the primary video in track 1, even though there is another JPG follow the one I previously selected. What I wanted was, following playing the two JPG’s, to manually make the selection to make track 1 the active track again. Consistently bounces to track 1 after just the first JPG. I tried this several times with the same results.
There is a rule in Multicam that a blank track can not be selected. Maybe the software sees the transition between the 2 JPG’s as a blank area, even though I tried butting them together and then again by cross fading them. Same results.
I’m at a loss.

Thank you Mike. This is exactly what I was looking for. The User Manual doesn’t appear to have an example of how to do this.
I found a less elegant way to mute a segment by using the ‘S’ key; selecting the ‘fader’ across the segment; then dragging the fader curve to the bottom of the track.
Your method is simpler and has more functionality.

My previous post was in error. The FAT file system is limited to 2GB, not 4GB as mentioned. I did have a file that was greater than 2GB and this is where the CMU crashed.

What you are looking at is an import from China. I’d be cautious as specs can be misleading or overstated, and quality marginal.

The XLR adapter is NOT a mic mixer. When the adapter is set to CH1+CH2 it only means that the mic plugged into “Input 1” will be recorded on “channnel 1 PLUS channel 2” (left plus right channels) of the recorded audio track, for a mono effect. “Input 2” is not active in this mode. If you change the selector switch to CH1, the mic plugged into “Input 1” will only be recorded on channel 1 (left channel) and if you also have a mic plugged into “Input 2” it will be recorded on channel 2 (right channel), for a stereo effect. This new XLR adapter now has the ability to balance the gain of the two input levels, unlike previous versions.
This can be a bit confusing until you get used to it. If you really want two or more inputs (mic or line) to be combined and appear on the left and right audio tracks, you will need an external mic mixer. Then the output of the mixer will go to “Input 1” on the adapter with the switch setting to CH1+CH2.Brad

I’m sorry to hear about your disappointment with the NX70.
Yesterday, I completed a six hour shoot at an indoor conference using my two NX70’s. First impressions today were that the footage was very acceptable. Lighting varied from indirect sunlight through un-curtained windows, to fluorescent, to just ambient. Although I haven’t reviewed all the clips or started editing, the video quality meets my expectations (so far). I have not experienced the problems you referred to (so far).
One problem did arise. The shotgun microphone clamp “broke off” while the camera was still in the camera bag. Short story is that the new shock mount design is poorly engineered. Two tiny screws go into two tiny plastic standoffs in the body of the XLR adapter, which holds everything together. This is the vibration damper and it is a very weak design. I will be contacting Sony next week but I can see this as being a continuing problem. More to come.
At the conference I met a fellow that was retired from Sony. He may turn out to be a valuable asset.

I do a lot of multi camera editing and have found that using a “jog wheel” type controller is much easier and more accurate than using a mouse when trying to sync audio tracks. The jog wheel allows you to go back and forth one frame at a time while listening for the echo effect to disappear. The controller I bought is called a “ShuttlePRO v2” by Contour Design. It is USB, has 15 programmable buttons and a variable speed spring-return wheel for forward and reverse. There are templates include that allows the controller to be pre-set with various Vegas Pro versions. B&H and Amazon sell these for about $80.

I was unaware that dual-boot was a possibility. Unfortunatly, my XP Pro system (home brew) motherboard doesn’t have drivers available for Win 7, so an upgrade to Win 7 will basically require a mostly new computer (MB, memory, processor, etc). I also have a secondary editing computer (file sharing) running XP Pro with Vegas 10 as a backup, so I have double trouble when it comes to hardware upgrade. I will seriously consider dual-boot when I make the leap.
By the way, how do you tell the computer which drive to boot from? Could you put both operating systems in different partitions on the same hard drive, or do you need two physical ‘C’ drives?

I will work with what the utility offers.
Also, I thought I read somewhere that Pro 11 has a direct import feature where you don’t have to use the CMU. However, it currently doesn’t matter as I purchased the Pro 11 upgrade, but my OS is XP which is not supported. I’ll make the decision to upgrade OS later.
