I can’t say anything specifically about the iMac, because I’ve pretty much (with a few exceptions) always worked on a Windows machine. Like Walter said the thought that a machine is bad, just because it runs Windows just isn’t the case. I run a 3 year old BOXX Technologies machine that I’ve been extremely happy with. You might want to look into BOXX mobile for your budget: https://www.boxxtech.com/products/mobile-workstations/goboxx-g2720

The main thing I think you see as far as performance boost from your description above is the SSD and the 4gb video card. If you’re iMac didn’t have SSD, your OS and software will feel even more smooth. If you choose to go BOXX, the support is just awesome, and they know creative workflows and software pretty well if you ever need them.

Good thought, but nope. I may just have to pre-render the entire comp.

Thanks! Ya I’ve seen this before, great script. That’s not what’s going on here though. I have no interaction with the precomped C4D render and the main composition. I only put the pre-render into a precomp so that I would have all the assets and screens in one organized place. Out in the main comp I’m just doing 2D animation of text & icons. That’s why this is so confusing. I can’t think of any reason why it’s misaligned in the main comp when it’s fine in the precomp…

No collapse transformation on in the main comp or any camera. Thanks though, you made me check to make sure 🙂 Any other suggestions?

  • Thank God for good friends! I hit up a new buddy of mine (I met at Adobe MAX) and she helped me figure things out. So, even though I had the Render settings at 29.97 and the Ae sequence settings at 29.97 the C4D project settings was at 30. I changed everything to match 30fps and then manually “Interpret Footage” in Ae to force it to 30fps. Extracted the scene via Cineware and voilà…

  • That’s kinda what I thought, but when I set up the render settings I used the HDTV 1080 preset:

And in Ae (at least the test file), I created the comp by dragging the c4d project into it’s own comp which should copy all the media settings correct? Any other suggestions on making sure the framerate lines up?

    Hi Todd,

I know you answer alot of questions about GPU and Ray Traced 3D. I looked over these links and I don’t see the answer to my specific question. If I have two GPU’s (GeForce GTX 760’s), is it better to run them SLI or just have both installed? If it’s not SLI will After Effects, Premiere, and Media Encoder put the second card to use during rendering? And lastly, is the second card only used during rendering, with no playback improvement or RAM preview improvement?

Oh, and I’m not really using the Raytraced render engine, so if I’m not is there really any benefit to having the second card?

    Thanks!

  • I should point out that the green background image above, is from Cineware. That’s been a big issue for me. Previously, the rendered aec files weren’t even importing solids either. I’m going to test if I MoCache if the solid will come in from the aec.

  • I thought I had tried that before, but just to be sure I just tried it again. I deleted both the delay effector and the fracture object from the scene, and similar results.

It’s really strange because the solid appears to be rotating the opposite direction. (appears, because I guess it could be the camera too).

Any other suggestions? I would really prefer to composite in Ae. Rendering the video texture from C4D for now.

  • That was my last resort, I don’t like committing to graphics like that until the client has given me full write off. Now if they make a change I’ve got to re-render the Ae file, and then re-render C4D… I really do appreciate the suggestion though! I know you saved me some time looking for what I was doing wrong not having the “Calculate” button pressed or the “Animate Preview” box checked! Thanks!
