I’m having the same issue capturing footage recorded at 24p Advanced on and XL2. I don’t think this is as simple as a hardware upgrade or just not capturing to a removable harddrive. I’m running a Dual 2GHz G5 with 2.5 GB DDR SDRAM, FCP 4.5. I’ve attempted to capture directly to the HD, RAID, and External Firewire drive and I get the same result everytime. The capture aborts after 3 seconds of capturing and gives the same error code:
Capture encounted a problem reading data on your source tape. This could be due to a problem with the tape. Capture has been aborted and your clip has been saved.
I’ve disabled all “abort capture” preferences, attempted to capture to all types of drives (local, raid, external). I’ve tried all NTSC easy setups and also tried a capture with a non-controlable device. I’ve captured using both Capture Now and Batch. I’ve even deleted my prefs. All tips and workarounds I’ve seen on Creative Cow have yeilded no solution. I’ve even tried duping my tapes but the dupe came out with artifacts (Sony DVCAM firewired to XL1 for duping).
This seems to be a bigger mystery that I had imagined. Rewards of fame to anyone who can crack this Da Vinci Code.
