I have the same question. Anyone here using the Sony PXW-X70 or the HXR-NX100? Running HD 1080?
I like the idea of the larger sensor and they are in the price range of some of the camera’s listed above.
I was wondering how the codec’s they used work with Vegas?
    Thanks

I don’t belive Vegas is making much if any use of that Nvida gpu. I got a wonderful boost when I bought an AMD R290.

I Like the Presonus Fader Port. I use it with protools in windows. I haven’t tried it with Vegas yet but should work see attached like. https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/webhelp/vegaspro/12/ENU/Content/Using_a_PreSonus_FaderPort.htm

    Thanks everbody,
I’ll take a look a the Black magic, those I was hoping someone had tried one of the cheaper options. I’m not cheap it just that I spend 100’s of hours making these courses and they sell slowly so business wise being frugal.
Camtasia looks like it would work fine except for one issue, I want to be able to capture some on my Mac mini as well. So I would have to buy two copies. Also Pro Tools 11 and 12 which I am now using has a higher resolution graphics and meters. This is fine on my PC I7 or I5 but it does bog down on the Mac Mini, dual core. ( Pro Tools 9 ran fine on this machine) On this machine having the Mix and edit windows open causes the display of meters and faders to stutter.
I’ve tried this before using quick time and I agree HD is a necessity Quick time and some others capture at a lower frame rate which messes with the audio metering.
    Thanks Again!

It’s basically a dongle BUT you can put multiple software packages on a single unit. I use it for all my audio software. Most audio software supports it. Isotope definitely does I use it for RX4 and did on RX 3.
You might be able to buy the iLok online ( it’s about $30.00), have it shipped to you and transfer your license to the ilok.
It’s all done online. I’m not sure, because you have license running it may not allow you to transfer but I think it might. Then you just plug the iLok into what ever computer you want to use RX3.

A few weeks ago I changed from Nvida to a AMD R9 280. ( Vegas Pro 12 not 13)It works great now and I am very very happy. I did have a bear of a time getting the drivers and catalyst control panel happy. Here is a kinda dumb idea. Before I got all the kinks out I noticed something odd. If I looked at my “Windows Experience” it wasn’t right. The numbers for video were low. You can click to update the evaluation and it runs a bunch of tests including the video card. Until I got the AMD installed properly it would crash or freeze when evaluating the card. I’m just saying this was an indication that even windows wasn’t happy with the install. One other thing. I noticed AMD attempted to download a New Catalyst package and drivers this week. I didn’t take it maybe you did. Or maybe you just got a Bad card.

Why not get off the SN and switch to Ilok?
But for now. Go to gmail create a new account.
Download RX4 demo and use the new email account. That should get you 10 days full function. But i use ilok to avoid this.

July 16, 2015 at 12:31 am in reply to: GPU Rendering??

I avoided GPU for a long time in Vegas 12 Pro, but after reading a few threads here I purchased a R9-280 and see a huge performance boost. True I am usually using HDV footage which vegas handles quite well. But some of my projects have numerous ovelapping tracks, and mix in some animation codec footage and it can bog down where things overlap.
One example is I mixed in some mp4 footage with a New Blue Plug In and at “Best Half” I was down to 9 fps or so. With the GPU on it cruses through at 29.97 fps no problem. I also ran a render test using the codec I always Use Sony 720 P Internet and I see a 50% increase in render times. As I believe John R. pointed out render times can increase even if the codec you are rendering to doesn’t use or make full use of the GPU. I have found this true. I would venture a guess that if you projects don’t bog your system down you won’t see much improvement, but if your projects do you might see a dramatic improvement. You can see my system specs below.
