Depends on your personal workflow. Others are repulsed by the Magnetic Timeline and the storyline, clip linking and the overall change. I actually am finding it speeding up my editing. It certainly would help if Apple would provide a 30 day trial version as they did with iWork so people wouldn’t have to plunk $299 down without knowing if they’d like the new workflow and changes.
What’s tedious for me may not be for you. I didn’t come from the “Pro” background when I started with FCP 1.0. I’m one of the lowly scum (at least that’s it sounds from the dismissive comments of some other Cow members) that doesn’t work in Broadcast or high end. Was glad to see some user tips and actual usage questions start popping up on the forum as opposed to the repetitive rants. The Cow has been a great place for me to learn and profit from the video trade. Just because I’m part time & have my studio in my house doesn’t mean I’m any less “Pro”. Was disheartening to see my opinions and comments discounted because of this. (Rant not directed at you, Michael – Just needed to rant).

If you make the text object a compound clip, than it acts as a typical video clip and you can add transitions to each end. But it looks like you can do a lot in the text object’s inspector tab.

As for “Fade In/Fade Out” transition, there is an “In Opacity” and “Out Opacity” in the Inspector for the titles that are keyframe-able. Parameters for Scale, Motion, etc also there.
Looks like you can’t add a “Cross Dissolve” or other transition as you would with a regular clip.
-
Only certain “Motion” attributes have the ability to adjust keyframe curves. Scale, Position, Anchor, etc aren’t ones that do. Bummer. I always used Motion for my animation before so I can’t remember if FCP 7 had Bezier curves for animation keyframes or not. Hmmm.

Click once to select the Event and then click once over the name. It will enable the name edit. If you change it, it immediately changes the event folder name in Finder. I checked it. Looks like it keeps everything updated. You have me curious on what if I change imported clip names.

Under the Window menu, there are choices that say “Show Events on Second Display” and “Show Viewer on Second Display”. Seems a bit limiting, but does the job for now.

Thanks Stephen!

MacProVideo tutorials. They cost money, but I believe the time saved is worth it. Free? It’s tough to find “free” unless you are looking for inspiration which is usually what I do before creating a project.
MacProVideo dot com. I’m not affiliated with them, but love their tutorials.

The other one I listed before is good for XH-A1/G1 users.
